Unit test confusion
Hey all,
I''m following along with AWDWR, specifically the unit testing.
On page 148, it shows you how Test::Unit::TestCase will automatically
define instance variables based on your fixtures.
It doesn''t seem to actually work, though. It seems that both @artists
["beatles"]["name"] and @beatles.name are nil objects in my test,
where as artists(:beatles).name works ok.
What is the right way of doing it? I''d guess the one that actually
works is right, but there''s a lot of stuff on google about the other
ways that I can''...

Should I Test My Fixtures?
I have a number of fixtures in my test suite. For example, with
acts_as_authenticated and acts_as_state_machine, I created a number of
users in different account states for use in functional testing.
(Suspended users can not log in, etc)
Is it a good idea to run fixtures through tests to ensure that they
conform to their ideals?
EG: assert users(:suspended_user).suspended?
If so, where should

Eager loading comments associated with user submissions.
Hey everyone,
I am working on an application that allows users to submit articles,
and also comment on those articles. Pretty much exactly like Digg.
Everything works fine except that when there are a lot of comments
there are a lot of database queries to both fetch the comments and the
users who posted those comments. I have used eager loading in other
parts of my application to reduce the

Ogg checksum thingie needed
I need some sort of utility to calculate a checksum of an Ogg file.
Two differently encoded Ogg:s should give different checksums, but the
same file with different tags should give the same result.
(The serial number doesn't work here, obviously. I need something that
is changed if a bit of the file is lost.)

this brilliant codec, even perhaps if it isn't done yet ;)
Keep up the good work!
My poorly tuned ears can't really tell the difference between (proper)
CD quality and a .ogg at ~64Kbs, although i've only tried encoding a
bunch of Beatles songs so far. Although there seem to be a few not
quite distingushable problems with songs like Yellow submarine
(Which has a bunch of different instruments/etc)

You will find that most people have a reason to do what they do -- it
doesn't mean it's a good one.
