Band in a Box 2008 with Ubuntu through wine?
I am really getting into my new Ubuntu Hardy Heron software but wondered if any music lovers amongst you could give me some advice? I heavily use Band in a Box 2008 on the XP side of my machine and have tried to install it, through the wine emulator so I can use it in Ubuntu. I could then, more or less, abandon the XP side on a 90% basic. Something I would very much like to do. Unfortunately BB

Is Allison going to be banned from foreign travel over polar bears?
I read this story and thought of Allison's prompt to "try not to think about blue eyed polar bears". Will she be banned from foreign travel now? Steve Prior -- snip -- WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Polar bears, sea ice and global warming are taboo subjects, at least in public, for some U.S. scientists attending meetings abroad, environmental groups and a top federal wildlife official

proposing $E & $T
Hey all, I''ve had these functions for some time now, and would like to offer them as two new dollar-sign functions - elements to be extended by Prototype geniuses. :-) makeText(string) as $T() - return text node element Does just what it says... I''m sure someone could extend it nicely when via Prototype. (example) var x = $T(''hello world'');

How to capture t-score and p-values from t.test
When I do t.test on two distributions (see example below), it outputs numerous data about the t.test. What I'd like to do is individually capture some of this data and assign it to other variables. However, I am unable to find anything in the help section. In the example below, the t value is -4.0441 and the p-value is 0.006771 How can I assign these values to two variables, let's

Converting nested "for" loops to an "apply" function(s)
Hello, I would like to know more about how to use the "apply" family and have attempted to convert nested "for" loops in example code from Contributed Documentation ("The Friendly Beginners' R Course? by Toby Marthews (ZIP, 2007-03-01)") to an "apply" function(s). The relevant code is: distances=c(51,65,175,196,197,125,10,56) #distances of 8 houses

Cups / Samba Driver Download question
Hey all!! Sorry about the crosspost but this invoves CUPS and Samba issues. [Samba 2.2.8 / CUPS 1.1.8 / Redhat 7.2 std] I have encountered a small problem (which is due to my own slipup more than anything else). I have "Windows 2000" versions of the Adobe postscript drivers installed on many of my 2000 machines. Now I am wanting to use the CUPS drivers which are "Windows 2000 or

ROXML from_xml not returning an object instance...
Hello, I have two ActiveRecord classes. One is Route the other is Waypoints. I have constructed an XML representation so I can use AJAX to create a Route with all waypoints in a single create call to RouteController. When I call Route.from_xml(xmlString) it is not returning an object - it''s leaving the object (@route) nil, but not erroring. Any ideas? Here''s some code:

Generating time progressing line for Google Earth
Dear, I am trying to visualise a time-progressing line (it's supposed to represent spread patterns) using brew package and Google Earth. The idea is to have a function which takes start and end point geographic coordinates, as well as number of intervals to chop the path up, and returns the collection of points segmenting this line. Unfortunately my calculations fail for large distances,

Extracting data from dataframe with tied rows
Hi R help, I'm a fairly experienced R user but this manipulation has me stumped, please help: DATA id<-rep(LETTERS[1:5],20) distance<-rnorm(1:100, mean = 100) bearing<-sample(1:360,100,replace=T) month<-sample(1:12,100,replace=T) I have a dataset with records of individuals (id) , each with a distance (distance) & direction (bearing) recorded for each month (month). hardware sizing and configuration
Understanding that a samba 4.x ADDC should be run on a an os separate than a samba 4. file server, I was thinking of virtualizing both. Is it common to have a single physcial server with two VM's running samba? If some is there a recommendation on how much hardware to start with and how much virtual hardware to give each VM. I'm wondering about virtual nics and if there may be a

finding contours in a matrix
Hi, I have matrix of sea bottom depths that I am plotting in R with the function 'image'. I am particularly interested in the 200m depth contour (I'm using 'distance from this feature' as a covariate in a model) and would like to extract the data at evenly spaced points along it. I can easily superimpose a line at 200m using the function 'contour'. What I want to

Where is xtime updated in a domU with an independent wallclock?
Hi All, I have just started looking at the code for Xen so please bear with me. A domU Linux kernel running with independent_wallclock=1 seems to sync its time with dom0 after every "xm unpause" (obviously preceded by an "xm pause"). I don''t see where the xtime variable is being updated after an "xm unpause", i.e., domain_unpause_by_systemcontroller().

ANN: Alaska.rb - Polar bears, igloos and sled dogs... oh my!
Is anyone else here from Alaska interested in a ruby users group to meet in Anchorage once a month? It might be a long shot but I thought i''d put the possibility of such a group out there if others are interested. If so, we''ll coordinate some times that work.
