Mavis Beacon crashes with page fault
Hi wine users,
I am using wine 0.9.3 on Mandrake 9.2. I've just installed wine from tar.bz2
and Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing 12 Standard; the installation went fine and
I'm able to run the program.
I have two problems:
1. The application hard-crashes my machine when running in full-screen mode,
since the app changes the screen resolution to 640x480. I had to reboot my
computer so I

smbd/oplock.c:oplock_timeout_handler(375) after samba upgrade
I recently upgraded from samba 3.0.10-1.fc3 to 3.0.21b-2 running on FC5.
Today was the first day of a typing class which uses the network version
of Mavis Beacon Typing which depends on file sharing.
The users are hanging and then getting an error message during logging
into the product. In /var/log/message, I can see the following message
for each user similar to:

[Bridge] [PATCH tip/core/rcu 04/13] wireless: Apply rcu_access_pointer() to avoid sparse false positive
From: "Paul E. McKenney" <paulmck at linux.vnet.ibm.com>
The sparse checking for rcu_assign_pointer() was recently upgraded
to reject non-__kernel address spaces. This also rejects __rcu,
which is almost always the right thing to do. However, the uses in
cfg80211_combine_bsses() and cfg80211_bss_update() are legitimate:
They is assigning a pointer to an element from an

Problems getting my wireles connection to work
I have an Everex laptop (ick, but it was super cheap) that has an
Atheros wireless NIC in it, but I can't seem to get it to connect to
my wireless in-home LAN. Here's what I've done so far (that isn't
working) - any suggestions?

Package gamlss used inside foreach() and %dopar% fails to find an object
If the code you are running in parallel is complicated, maybe foreach is not sophisticated enough to find all the variables you refer to. Maybe use parallel::clusterExport yourself? But be a aware that passing parameters is much safer than directly accessing globals in parallel processing, so this might just be your warning to not do that anyway.

Recode from 2 variables
I am trying to create a new variable which uses the suburb names if HR
and HRRES are the same but which uses HRRES if they are different. Any
assistance would be appreciated as my brain has just packed up. I'm not
sure I can teach myself anymore new tricks this afternoon.

R program writing standard/practices
Dear Experts,
I notice that there are different ways of writing programs. Was wondering if
there is anything like a standard which could be used to write good/complete
R programs, maintain quality, easy to debug, a standard/practice that can be
consistent in an enterprise environment. Also, are there any beacon lights
that could help navigate through lines of code, programming styles,

So, anyone got any other ideas how I can accomplish this? I'd really
like to leave the Linux permissions as they are, so if there's a way of
making Samba do this, that would be good.
many thanks in advance,
Matt

Package gamlss used inside foreach() and %dopar% fails to find an object
Hello all:
Please help me with this "can't find object" issue. I'm trying to get leave-one-out predicted values for Beta-binomial regression.
It may be the gamlss issue because the code seems to work when %do% is used. I have searched for similar issues, but haven't managed to figure it out. This is on Windows 10 platform.
Thanks in advance,
Nik

Learning advanced R
See Hadley's advanced R along Thomas Mailund's books. I haven't gone
through them carefully but they both
seem (from what I've looked at ) to be the best ones for that. Mentions of
others are appreciated.

Another Fedora decision
...They have been exploited in the
past and no doubt will be exploited in the future. A PDF file is a
postscript computer language program with embedded data. Nothing
more. But nothing less either. Given the network awareness of some
pdf reader software they are also potential data leaks and web

That said, I readily admit that the risk posed by this particular
example is low. But, it is not zero. And depending upon the platform
the file is copied to any non-zero risk, no matter how small, may be
too much.
I might put such a file on a stand-alone laptop but I would never put

Learning advanced R
Hello:
Could you please suggest the best way to become an "advanced" R programmer.
I went through "R for dummies" by de Vries and Meys and I can see two ways
to proceed:
1) Get a more advanced textbook. E.g. could you recommend Gentleman,
"R for Bioinformatics"?
2) Because textbooks are limited and become obsolete fast, I can focus on learning state-of-the-art
