playback problems with oppo BDP-95
My friend somehow managed to get a BDP-95, even though the hardware
isn't scheduled to ship until March. The problem is that the manual
makes no mention of FLAC, at all, and only the web page claims to
support the format.
Playback of flac seems to work, but files from one online vendor work
flawlessly while files from othe...

playback problems with oppo BDP-95
...cific hardware has a problem with certain compression levels, but
I cannot recall whether that was limited to just encoding, or
decoding as well. It could very well be true that I am conflating my
vague memory of encoder limitations with decoder limitations.
It does seem to be that the oppo BDP-95 is exhibiting problems with
particular flac files. Since my original message, my friend has
installed the latest version of flac and recompressed the exact files
that were giving him a problem before - now with -0 or --fast he
doesn't see a playback problem at all. So, even though...

...el 0 is enough to make the hardware happy. In that
case, are only the old Rice codings used for lower compression levels
with 24-bit audio?
You raise a good point, Nicholas. I would like to see manufacturers
give specific information about what level of the FLAC format they
support. The BDP-95 does not mention FLAC in the manual at all, and
the web page only mentions FLAC twice - once in a bold heading, and
again in the body of text. Neither mention of FLAC gives any details
at all - they just put it in the list of formats. I suppose, in
comparison, that MP3 players usually...

HPN Patch for OpenSSH 4.2p1 Available
Howdy,
As a note, we now have HPN patch for OpenSSH 4.2 at
http://www.psc.edu/networking/projects/hpn-ssh/
Its still part of the last set of patches (HPN11) so there aren't any
additional changes in the code. It patches, configures, compiles, and
passes make tests without a problem. I've not done extensive testing for
this version of openssh but I don't foresee any problems.

I/O descriptor ring size bottleneck?
Hi everyone,
I''m doing some networking experiments over high BDP topologies. Right
now the configuration is quite simple -- two Xen boxes connected via a
dummynet router. The dummynet router is set to limit bandwidth to
500Mbps and simulate an RTT of 80ms.
I''m using the following sysctl values:
net.ipv4.tcp_rmem = 4096 87380 4194304
net.ipv4.t...

RBloomberg: unable to use 'Corp' to fetch data
I am trying to get new Cusip (registered security) from old . This can be done in excel using BDP command.
For example:
=BDP("000361AJ Corp","ID_CUSIP"), will give 000361AK1.
Can this be done using RBloomberg? Any help will be much appreciated.

[Bridge] Re: [2.4.22] bad interaction between e100 and bridge: BUG at dev.c:991!
Could the problem be that the e100 can do IP receive checksumming on the board,
but the eepro driver doesn't enable it. When the board is doing checksum
offload, then the csum field isn't set.
Please try disabling receive checksumming on the e100 driver
modprobe e100 XsumRX=0
If this is the problem, it exists both 2.4 and 2.6.

Problem in using bdh function for Govt tickers
Hi, all
I wanted to fetch data from Bloomberg for govt bonds, and analyse it
further.
I am having trouble in getting data as when I use field=PX_LAST, it is
giving the prices but when I use field=CPN, or ISSUE_DT, it is not giving
the results and just bouncing back <NA> for that.
This is the piece of code:

HPN SSH
...etc) which still need
to be addressed?
We have been using HPN-SSH for over a year now, and like others, have
observed significant performance improvement over standard OpenSSH. I can
scp a 1 GB test file between two HPN-SSH LAN hosts at 700 Mbps (<1 ms
latency). And over a cross-country high-BDP WAN link, I'm able to achieve
over 500 Mbps (85 ms latency). These single-stream scp transfers were run
on well-tuned Linux kernels 2.6.15 (or higher) with the arcfour cipher.
(I'll be happy to provide more details about these tests upon request.) I'm
not sure how 'typical' my...

Controlling SO_RCVBUF
I have a customer who is complaining about slow SFTP transfers over a long haul connection. The current transfer rate is limited by the TCP window size and the RTT. I looked at HPN-SSH, but that won't work because we don't control what software the peer is using. I was thinking about coding a much more modest enhancement that just does SO_RCVBUF for specific subsystems. In the interest

DynamicWindow Patch
We have developed a patch that enables changing the SSH window size
using the tcp window size as the source. This allows SSH to obtain
maximum use of the bandwidth on high BDP links.
We also have a page that describes the changes and performance.
http://www.psc.edu/~rapier/hpn-ssh/
The patch against CVS is included here.
Common subdirectories: src/usr.bin/ssh/CVS and ssh/CVS

[Bug 1332] New: Add ability to set TCP rcvbuf size

ReportedBy: imorgan at nas.nasa.gov
Created an attachment (id=1320)

This adds a ReceiveBufferSize option to ssh(1)
For high-BDP connections, it may be necessary to increase the size of
the TCP rcvbuf in order to get good performance. In some cases, this
can be accomplished by adjusting a kernel setting or using an
autotuning
kernel. However, these are not always viable options.
In some cases the TCP rcvbuf must be set to...

HPN patch for OpenSSH 4.3 released
...n update to HPN-12 out sometime in March (when I can get some
freetime). This will conform more closely to the OpenSSH nomenclature
and argument structure.
Basic functionality has been tested. We're still getting a 20x to 30x
performance improvement for bulk data transfer on paths with high BDP. I
don't think we've broken any of the new functionality but if someone
does find a problem please let me know ASAP.
Also, if anyone here is using the GSI patch (Grid Security
Infrastructure) a new version has been released from NCSA which
incorporates the HPN patch.
