Request to update slapd.conf and OpenLDAP info for Samba-Guide/happy.html
Dear Team,
The OpenLDAP stuff on this page:
http://us4.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html
is not the preferred backend, i.e. ldbm, it really, really needs to be bdb.
See:
http://www.openldap.org/faq/index.cgi?_highlightWords=bdb%20ldbm&file=1085
"ldbm uses a neutral storage interface which in principle could wrap dbm,
ndbm, gdbm or sleepycat as underlying storage; however, only Sleepycat is
considered a reliable choice, so bdb offers more interesti...

[OT] SVN: Anybody use BDB?
I''m moving my Subversion repository to a new server. The old server uses
Berkeley DB/Sleepycat and if memory serves, it was a lot of effort to
set that up -- so I think I''ll try FSFS. Does anybody use BDB and prefer
that over FSFS? Or had any problems with FSFS? (I never had any problems
with BDB, performance or otherwise, btw.)
Thanks,
Joe

BDB speed benefits
Hi.
Any idea what speed benefits the BDB translator provides over standard file
storage?
Also, how it's reliable, and what's the maximum file size it stores in the
DB?
Thanks.

bdb xml
Anybody have any pointers for using BDB XML and Ruby on Rails?
I am developing on Windows XP pro..
I have installed Berkeley DB XML on my system
I have tried gem install rdbxml - this failed at first due to no nmake
I then installed nmake from the Windows support site.
Now when I run gem install rdbxml I get:

Error: dict: Failed to initialize dictionary 'expire'
Hi!
Using dovecot-1.1.17, and BDB-4.6.21.
I'm having this error in every two weeks or so. I've running this in a
crontab:
/usr/local/sbin/dovecot --exec-mail \
ext /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/expire-tool
The expire plugin and tool is working fine, the configuration is ok, and
I'm using the BDB backend.

Samba/OpenLDAP reliability issue: backend experience needed
..., openldap 2.2.6
Sometimes, the OpenLDAP gets corrupted, no ideas why. It's a bad thing.
We have 100+ computers, 300+ users, which shall get 350 computers and 800
users.
What would you suggest in order to be reliable ? Reliability is more important
than speed for us.
I used to work with a bdb backend, had problems; the SuSE consultant told us
to use ldbm, but it isn't any better.
Any advice would be helpful since googleling gives mostly contradictory
information about that.
Kind regard,
Gerd

Linking against a specific Berkeley DB install
...ome across the list. I am asking here in the hopes of
getting a faster response.
I am trying to compile OpenLDAP 2.3.11 from source on CentOS4. I have the
rpm for db4-4.2.52-7.1 installed and also a source build of BerkeleyDB in
/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.4.
How do I get OpenLDAP to link with the bdb 4.4?
I have put the library locataion everywhere I can think of:
LDFLAGS=-L/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.4/lib
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.4/lib
LD_RUN_PATH=/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.4/lib
Still, the configure seems to link with the 4.2 rpm build:

replace astdb with a cluster-capable sql database engine (was: Re: asterisk-users Digest, Vol 44, Issue 22)
...it
over long times, but I'd like to if there are any. I'm particularly
interested in seeing reports of Asterisk Realtime backed by Postgres.
The problem with pointing dialplan DB functions like Set(DB) at
unix-odbc (or any relational driver) is that the native functions use
the very fast BDB, not a relational one, that has very different
(better) scaling profiles than running those calls over a database
driver, especially across a network. Having all those BDB data available
in the relational DB for joins and other integrated queries (and backup
and other RDBMS features) would be great...

Openldap for PDC
I have been testing with openldap_2.2.13-2 and have experience on 2
occasions lockups where the ldap server does not respond (slapcat will
just hang). I have upgraded to openldap_2.2.13-4.
Is there a recommended version of openldap for SambaPDC?
Does anyone have a system in production using openldap_2.2.13-2 or
openldap_2.2.13-4?
I'm currently using samba3-20b any recommendations for a

On UFS2 slapd runs fine, without showing the error.
Things I have tried already to stop the lockups:
- running openldap-server23, openldap24 both with different BDB backend versions.
- tuning the BDB Init File
- reducing the threads used by slapd through slapd.conf
What I didn't try until now:
Mounting a zfs vdev into the jail, to have the BDB storing its data on UFS. (don't like the idea)
