bcm43xx CentOS5
...then 9) on this but 2.6.23 and 2.6.25
stopped populating various bits of /proc/acpi with the relevant
information for the cpu temp sensor to be read accurately (lm_sensors
doesn't detect any sensors either in 2.x or 3.x) so i am reliant on
the kernel to do the necessary magic.
I had been using bcm43xx then b43 to access the card with the 4.x
firmware from openwrt and all was good - speedy responsive etc
Got fed up with kernel updates attempting to fry the laptop as i after
2.6.23 i had to replace the mobo (opened bugzilla report, no action
taken, not complaining coz hey it's a 440BX-M so is...

Obtaining a newer Broadcomm (bcm43xx) driver for CentOS 5
I'm using CentOS 5 (w/all latest updates as of 2008-01-06) on an HP
laptop -- in fact, the exact laptop described here:
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/HP/Pavilion-ze5300_Series
Ever since I switched from SHARED to OPEN authentication (and hence
from using ndiswrapper to the bcm43xx module, as explained on that
wiki page), I've been having packet loss and/or collision on the
wireless device, to the point that recently I've needed to plug in to
a wired network in order to get yum updates. I'd like to try
installing a newer version of the driver, but I'm having...

Need Broadcom 4311 firmware for CentOS 5
Any hope of getting my laptop's Broadcom BCM94311 wireless running
on CentOS 5? I find lots of references to using fwcutter to get
the needed firmware from Windows drivers, but there's a Catch-22:
Version of fwcutter that generate files for the bcm43xx driver
in CentOS 5 don't recognize the md5sum of any currently
available Windows driver.
Newer versions of fwcutter do recognize my Windows XP driver
files, but generate output in a newer format that is not
compatible with the bcm43xx driver.
I've been searching and fi...

Which external WiFi device for laptop running CentOS 5.3?
Have decided to give up on the embedded Broadcom 4312 wireless device in
my son's Dell laptop. I get WEP open authentication to work, but
nothing else. I was about to dump the bcm43xx kernel module and the
bcm43xx-microcode5.fw firmware and work with the newer b43 module and
associated firmware. However, he claims that at school, he has always
had intermittent problems with wireless under Vista and wants an
external device (USB or PCMCIA).
So...if you had a clean slate, which...

CentOS 5 and Broadcom wireless
I've got CentOS 5 installed on my hp pavilion ze 5300 laptop and the
network configuration UI says my wireless NIC has been correctly
identified and assigned what appears to be the right Broadcom device
driver on eth1. However, the inteface doesn't come up.
Google doesn't find anything recent about using Linux with Broadcom
except for someone's passing remark that Ubuntu 7 beta

Wondering about CentOS 5.1 functionality
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi All,
I'm giving serious thought to loading 5.1 on my Inspiron 1501 laptop,
but I'm wondering about certain hardware support such as the following:
- - Broadcom Wireless Adapter - 1390 Wlan (bcm43xx)
- - USB (Pny Memory Stick - everytime on previous version CentOS has eaten
the damned things)
- - pptp vpn client(s)
Any comments?
thanks,
Mark

Dell HSPA 5530 - Built-in 3G - Not detected
Hi all,
I have been trying to get CentOS 5.5 running on my Laptop for a while now.
I am currently running Fedora 13 for the only reason that my Dell Wireless
HSPA 5530 built-in 3G Mobile Device is working.
I have tried loading the bcm43xx modules after reading several posts on
Google but not able to get this working at all.
I have run CentOS on my servers for a while now and love it. Just this
last bit that holds me back from going fullt to CentOS.
My laptop is a Dell E6400 and I have tried with both x86 and x86_64
without luck....

Broadcom BCM4360
...ibute the drivers due

Every time I encounter big enough trouble about some chipset to have to learn a bit about its internals, I usually learn about its engineering flaw. BCM43xx has the following one: the chip internally is 32 bit, though it sits on 64 bit bus. (Take that with a grain of salt, it's been long time since I looked into that crap).
Once I discover the flaw, I add particular hardware in my black list and do my best to not buy anything containing it. Broadc...

Networking issue (after latest 5.1 update?)
I'm not *entirely* sure but this began happening at about the time I
installed the latest kernel updates for CentOS 5.1
(kernel-2.6.18-53.1.6.el5.i686.rpm from January 24). Shortly before
that I changed the encryption on my wireless router and switched from
ndiswrapper back to the standard bcm43xx driver, but I'm pretty sure
the network was OK before that update for the simple reason that I was
able to download the update itself.
In any case, for the past week or so wireless network connectivity
from my CentOS 5 laptop has been terrible. The wireless router is set
up as my DNS server,...

Updating kernel from CentOS 5 to 5.1
To upgrade the kernel to CentOS 5.1 (to take advantage of support for
Dell wireless card bcm43xx), should I update everything or just type
'yum update kernel', or what? Also, is it OK to remove 'old' kernels
(which appear in the boot list) when they are no longer required?
Thanks,
Andy

CentOS 5 and ndiswrapper
This is an abbreviated version of an e-mail that I also posted to the
ndiswrapper mailing list. Compressing the long story, I ran into the
same problem using CentOS 5 as I had with Fedora Core 6 and ndiswrapper:
my laptop (HP Pavilion zv6000 series with a Broadcom BCM43xx wireless
NIC) would lock up or spontaneously reboot after a few hours if I
brought up the wireless interface. I also tried using the native
bcm43xx driver but the system wouldn't even boot. On a whim, I tried
the current "plain vanilla" kernel (2.6.21) from kernel.org. My lapto...

Broadcom Wifi Problem
I have a Broadcom 802.11b/g hardware on my dual-boot laptop.
Note first that in the WinXP partition, the wifi makes DHCP
connections to my router with no problem. Since this
was not working in my new CentOS 6 partition, and
remembering that there was a driver problem with the
old Fedora partition it replaced, I followed instructions

Dell TrueMobile 1400 Wireless card
Has anyone had any luck with getting the Dell TrueMobile 1400 A/B/G
wireless card working under Linux? I have experimented with ndiswrapper,
i have had nothing but problems trying to get it to work. I was
wondering if anyone has found a native Linux driver for the card. It
uses a Broadcom 4309 chipset.

Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility - mini-pci wireless card 1390
Is there any way I can find a driver and/or get the above wireless card
working in CentOS 5 on my Dell laptop (Inspiron 1501). I've installed
ipw2200 from RPMForge, but it now appears that this won't work because
the card is not an Intel PRO/Wireless card. Dell seem to support only MS
Windows Vista now so I don't think there's much chance of getting a
driver from them - so am I on
