Contos3->5 upgrade, smbmount is gone?
I solemnly puke upon people who break things and call it progress. Get ye to Redmond. I upgraded Centos3.8 to Centos5.4; smbmount is gone. Mounting a WinXP share requires a new instantiation of the old command smbmount \\\\hostname\\path\\to\\share /local/mount/point -o ip=123.12.34.234,username=hostname\\my_userid,password=whatever which should now be mount -t cifs <somebody please

the wandering MAC?
Hi all, I have what appears to be a truly puzzling problem. I've got this P4 32-bit machine running CentOS 5.5 with XEN that has two NICs: one onboard, an Intel Corporation 82540EM Gigabit and one on an expansion card, Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8169 Gigabit. The second one is recognized as eth1. What's happening is, it is showing up under one of the two MAC's: either

use of MAILTO variable in crontab
I want to do something like this: 30 2 * * * MAILTO=testaddr at harte-lyne.ca; echo "this should be mailed" I have searched extensively and from what I have read I believe that this should work. But evidently I misapprehend how cron and MAILTO is supposed to work as my example does not cause any mail to be sent as far as I can determine from maillog. How does one specify unique

Antwort: MegaRAID SAS 9280-24i4e -- Centos support.
Timo, Its interesting, I am presently attending a conference in NYC and in one of the tables I saw the redhat vendor. My first question to them was " What do you think about centos", they reply "You are using a distribution without support and that is prompt to failure..." I don't think this is an accurate statement is it? Anyway to make the story short, they keep telling

Broken repo / mirrors?
I fixed my earlier problem with a 'yum clean all', now I am getting this problem: 'Package does not match intended download' for both device-mapper and net-snmp-libs, for ALL of the mirrors. Log of the output is attached. -- Robert Heller -- Get the Deepwoods Software FireFox Toolbar! Deepwoods Software -- Linux Installation and Administration

IPV4 is nearly depleted, are you ready for IPV6?
Seeing as IPV4 is near it's end of life (http://www.internetnews.com/infra/article.php/3915471/IPv4+Nearing+Final+Days.htm), I'm curios as who know whether everyone is ready for the changeover to IPV6? Is anyone using it in production already, and what are your experiences with it? -- Kind Regards Rudi Ahlers SoftDux Website: http://www.SoftDux.com Technical Blog:

Upgrade Problems
I had a RH7.3 system. I upgraded via Centos5.3 CDs I upgraded this system further via Yum. Current problems: 1: nvidia GF6800 Xtreme video card has no kernel module, so I have command-line only. 2: Building a kernel module requires downloading (at least parts) of the kernel; there is no clear label "yum install kernel-module-build-enabler" 3: Downloading the whole source tree (yum
