Content-Length: 0
While trying to debug a goofy XML loading issue in IE, I''ve found
that Mongrel (latest) returns Content-Type: 0 with every request on a
particular (CentOS 4) server, yet not on my local (OS X) box. These
both access identical Rails apps. This seems like a clue, but thought
I''d ask here if for some reason this is expected behavior. Both

How to change the default encoding for dynamic pages
Hello,
I''m trying to write a rails application serves by mongrel and using
accentuated characters in the .rhtml page. But Mongrel replace them by ''?'' .
It works fine for static pages by defining the charset to iso-8859-1 in the
mongrel_mime.yml
But how to change the default encoding (seems to be UTF-8) for the dynamic
pages ?
thanks for your help.

Reading characters using read.table()
Hello,
I need to read a vector containing names of different variables from a
text file (a unique column). Among them one is called "T". When I use
the function read.table with default arguments and when I call the
element of the data frame corresponding to name of this variable it
returns me the logical value "TRUE" whereas I was expected it to return
the character

mongrel_cluster and Monit
On one of my development servers mongrel dies when idle for any length
of time. Since I''ve not been able to solve that problem I thought I''d
route around it by using monit to kick things when necessary.
My monitrc contains the following...

Building a function
Hello,
Is it possible to build a function, a posteriori, by getting the names
of the arguments and the formula in a list or a vector ? When I use the
function as.function(), I don't know how to define explicitly the names
of my variables as formal arguments.
Thanks

is there really a restart task in switchtower? How do you invoke it?
I just created a new rails project "test".
I then did "switchtower --apply-to ~/user/test test"
I then moved into test and tried "rake restart" and got:
kfelkins@lurch:~/user/test$ rake restart
(in /home/kfelkins/user/test)
rake aborted!
Don''t know how to build task ''restart''
I see restart in deploy. Can restart be invoked from the

Snow parLapply
Dear R-user,
I am trying to use the function 'parLapply' from the 'snow' package
which is supposed to work the same wys as 'lapply' but for a
parallelized cluster of computers. The function I am trying to call in
parallel is 'dudi.pca' (from the 'ade4' package) which performs
principal component analyses. When I call this function on a list of

Coxph and ordered factors
Dear useRs,
I am trying to fit a Cox PH model on survival data from a lung cancer
dataset. I would like to include the patient staging (I-IV) as a
covariate. For this I use the following function:
coxph(Surv(time,status) ~ stage)
The staging information is a categorical variable, and it is important
to take the ordering into account (I<II<III<IV). Does the coxph function

IPv6 on Centos 6
We've been running ipv6 for a year or so now, but some of our newer
instances (all on an ESX cluster) are not working. It looks like it's
all of our Centos 6 instances. I'm hoping someone can point me in the
right direction...

Rails Day 2006 -- 24 hour programming contest on July 17th
I just launched the website for Rails Day 2006, the second annual 24
hour Ruby on Rails development contest. Teams of one to three people
have 24 hours to develop a Rails application from scratch. When the
contest is over, entries are judged, and cool prizes are awarded.

Snow Rmpi Heterogeneous Cluster
Dear R-users,
I am trying to make Snow and Rmpi working on an heterogenous cluster of
linux computers. The master computer is built on a 64 bit architecture
whereas all nodes are built on a 32 bit architecture. LAM/MPI was
installed successfully on all machine. LAM boots correctly on the master
computer and it recognizes all nodes defined in the lamhosts file.
However, when starting R,

File listing problem
I'm running samba version 2.0.4 and have a rather strange problem. I've
created 2000 empty files on a Windows 2000 server named:
simonsimons.20011214.17nnn
where nnn is a number between 1 and 2000.
When connecting to the sever in Unix using smbclient and doing a ls on the
directory, the smbclient just does nothing (it sits there until I break out
of it).
If I then go into dos and

--link-dest
Clearly I'm missing something about --link-dest; I know it works because
rsnapshot is doing the right thing on this system, but it's not on
another system, and I'm trying to troubleshoot that. The first step is
to be able to verify that --link-dest works on it, but I can't even get
it to work in an known-good environment --- no matter how I specify the
args to it, it's

Mongrel Hangs After Idle Period
I had posted a thread couple of weeks ago whereby mongrel just mysteriously
stops interacting with my application after an idle period...usually less
than 8 hours.

I had hoped this would go away after a few upgrades but to know avail.
Interestingly, the process does not die...it still accepts HTTP requests but

Supermicro SAS/SATA controllers?
The standard controller that has been recommended in the past is the
AOC-SAT2-MV8 - an 8 port with a marvel chipset. There have been several
mentions of LSI based controllers on the mailing lists and I''m wondering
about them.
One obvious difference is that the Marvel contoller is PCI-X and the LSI
controllers are PCI-E.
Supermicro have several LSI controllers. AOC-USASLP-L8i with the
