--link-dest isn't linking

Why isn't it hard linking? This is driving me nuts.
When I do --itemize-changes, for that file, it says:
>f+++++++++ panic-2012-02-01/home/darxus/0000_latest.jpg
<@BasketCase> that shows the file isn't found
< Darxus> Okay. I think I've pasted enough to show that it's there?
<@BasketCase> it does seem strange
I created some test files and verified that rsync -Ha --link-dest did
correctly hard link those test files on that partition.

[Bug 10233] New: rsync is spending a lot of time lstat64()'ing --exclude'd files
....gz", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=579, ...}) = 0
lstat64("<file>.gz", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=339, ...}) = 0
Seems like this statting of files which match the --exclude pattern could be
skipped, saving a lot of time in some cases?
I'm using rsync version 3.0.7. BasketCase in IRC reproduced this with v3.1.0.

[Bug 9377] New: acls ignored when using neither --perms nor --chmod
...y other defaults too.
situations like files in 0000 directories can then not occur at all unless the
umask is set extremely restrictively (eg 0777), in which case whoever set the
umask hopefully knew what that does and might even expect things not to work.
(part of this was developed together with BasketCase on freenode/#rsync).

[Bug 10170] New: rsync should support reflink similar to cp --reflink
...Component: core
AssignedTo: wayned at samba.org
ReportedBy: samba at shubin.ca
QAContact: rsync-qa at samba.org
new filesystems support the reflink system call...
the standard GNU cp utility now supports this too.
this functionality is invaluable for future rsync.
@BasketCase recommended I write this as a feature.

Adding entry breaks index
Our ferret 0.10.13 index has been slowly growing on our debian server
and has just got up over 14,000 records. Yesterday I randomly noticed
that one search I did was suddenly giving whack, unexpected results. I
have spent much time trying to track the problem.
Tried ferret 0.10.9 - no change.
Tried on a windows machine - where it works fine, and doesn''t give weird
results (which just
