Annoying semi-bug in flac
Dear all, I use flac a lot and find it really useful. However, there is one slight issue that keeps bugging me. When encoding/checking files with long filenames, you get output like this (usually much longer): 30 Gardiner, John Eliot Monteverdi Choir, English Baroque Soloists - 30 Recitative Und sie kamen eilend.flac: ok 21 Gardiner, John Eliot Monteverdi Choir, English Baroque Soloists - 21 Chorus Ehre sei Gott in der H?e.flac: ok 34 Gardiner, John Eliot Monteverdi Choir, English Baroque Soloists - 34 Recitative Und die Hirten kehrten wieder um.flac: testing,...

mangled filenames
...re's an example, listing files over Samba: rococo% ls PR Archive Awards ACD76Y~N <-- Inhouse folder AOBC8G~A <-- Outhouse folder Listing the same files directly on the fileserver with ls(1), the filenames appear ok (-w in ls(1) forces raw printing of non-printable characters): baroque% ls -w PR Archive Awards Inhouse Outhouse However, doing file(1) on the same directory shows some trailing spaces in the two folders that appear mangled-up over Samba: baroque% file PR/* PR/Archive: directory PR/Awards: directory PR/Inhouse : directory <-- notice the space b...

Why R should never move to git
...ious PR, so I'm not going to do this. This is ridiculous! It is such an easy concept: I want to take the diff between my most recent commit and the one before, and send that diff to the owners of the master copy. This should be a trivial (and it is in svn). Git and Github allow the most baroque arrangements, but can't do this simple task. That's an example of really bad UI design. Duncan Murdoch

music.ibiblio.org: bad Vorbis comments?
...manually: Instead use some script that extracts the comments from the files you already have. users might share the files, but unlikely they'll share the index.html ;-) Example of what I found for "06Poglietti_Hens_and_Cocks.ogg": title=Revival Harpsichord Artist=Sylvia Kind plays Baroque Music Album=UWP2002 For comparison, here's what I have in one of my "home-tagged" files (OK, everybody considers me insane, but anyhow). "-nospam" added to EMail address because of stupid guys around: ALBUM=Odyssey ARTIST=Hayley Westenra CONTACT=hayleyw@bedlammanageme...

Help needed: plotting with no device
...Yes, I know, I should have saved while I had the chance. I tried to do a hist() in an environment without a plotting device. My R session now seems to be hung; ^C doesn't do anything. I thought it would timeout, but it has not so far. The details of this session's environment are a bit baroque. In case it matters, here they are: Running an xterm locally, used the "screen" program to start a shell. Ran R. Then, from a remote computer, used ssh to log in (without X forwarding enabled). Grabbed the session by doing screen -d -r. (screen lets you trade the controlling tty of a...

if statement
Hi all, I have a rather naive question. I have the height of 100 individuals in a table and I want to assign the tallest 30% as Case=1 and the bottom 30% as Case=0. How do I do that? thanks. jiong The email message (and any attachments) is for the sole use of the intended recipient(s) and may contain confidential information. [PATCH v35 1/5] mm: support to get hints of free page blocks
...; is reasonable. But "tens of max-sized pages" sounds fair enough to me, and it would certainly not be a pain for the VM. So I'm open to new interfaces. I just want those new interfaces to make sense, and be low latency and simple for the VM to do. I'm objecting to the incredibly baroque and heavy-weight one that can return near-infinite amounts of memory. The real advantage of jjuist the existing "alloc_pages()" model is that I think the ballooning people can use that to *test* things out. If it turns out that taking and releasing the VM locks is a big cost, we can see...

There's no printed documentation shipped with the unit, but I have a piece of software for windows that shipped with a different model (which I haven't tried configuring yet), that uses snmp to set misc variables (ip settings, sip stuff, etc.). Fairly baroque interface & pretty slim on help... Basically, I'm wondering if anyone's ever configured one of these things for use with *, & if anyone could share any tips with me... Doesn't seem like I'm getting it to register w/* -- I thought I'd been setting the proxy username/pa...

Improve the Rails Lighthouse overview page
Hello, I have a suggestion to improve the Rails Lighthouse overview page. At present the description is very large. You need to scroll to find the tickets and more importantly the list of pages. I think a shorter description along the lines of http://i48.tinypic.com/2z6a7lt.png would be much better. All the information at present in the description can be moved into pages, and they can be linked
