Grandstream Budgetone G723, G729 or any compression
Hi, does anybody made G723 or G729 to work with a GrandStream Phone ? I've
a Cisco here and it works fine with G723, but not with my asterisk. The
bandwitdh is very important, since we will have our extensions at home. I
know that I have what I pay, but the phone works with cisco.
Trying to use G723 or G729 Asterisk says no codec available.
Does anybody have it working with any compression ?

Hi Steffen,
Can you elaborate on this?
I would have thought that the IMAP Append command would *save* bandwidth
(as opposed to having the client save a copy to the Sent folder, thereby
uploading the full message a...

How to limit Apple Mail (desktop)?
By default, Apple Mail downloads all e-mails from server's account. Previous versions of this client allowed to opt-out. The latest two versions? however, only allow to opt-out from downloading the attachments.
The stress on the server is unbearable. We cannot ask users to be considerate: this is the default behaviour of Apple Mail.
We need a server-side solution to the problem.

ot: data consumption IMAP vs POP
I have a domain with about 50 mailboxes, server is located here in AUS but
most of the users are on a LAN is SEAsia location. They were using POP
(with Thunderbird), I suggested then can use IMAP instead, so they did.
now they are asking;
"Looks like Imap is adding a lot to our internet bandwidth"
I guess they have some bandwidth limitation on their link
I think I can understand that

Asterisk on a dialup connection?
...set it up as a h323 client to mine.
I am currently working on setting up one of my lan machines with ohphone
to connect to my asterisk box to call FWD and such. Is this possible?
Somehow asterisk must translate the codecs from whatever SIP uses to
whatever ohphone uses ( I will force it to low bandwitdh g723.1).
I am hoping this will work and that the Vonage interconnect will be up
soon as this will be a cheap way for them to contact my sister as well.
I am still an asterisk newbie so pardon me if the questions seem
newbie-ish.
Has anybody gone down this path? I hate to have to reinvent the...

?? If you use Linux you can use netfilter (iptables) mark feature to
track individual connections from a given IP, and above a threshold you
can shape the bandwitdh based on those iptables mark. For example, if an
IMAP connection from ip X exceed 100 megabytes of data, bandwitdh for
that ip would be limited to 100 KB/sec (or whatever number). First 100
megabytes, top speed, above that they get slower.

ADPCM codec and IAXy device
Hi All;
I need to buy one IAXy device, but I discovered that
it supports only g711 and ADPCM codec, so I was wonder
that it does not support g729 or GSM?!
Anyway, what is that ADPCM and how much it consumes
bandwitdh? Also, asterisk support such codec? What its
name in the configuration?
Any advise?
Regards
Bilal

IAX Codec
...ed it to disallow all and use GSM only. In my sip config of each
phone I use disallow all and allow ulaw and alaw only.
I see that the Cisco phone support G.729a, G.711u and G.711a codecs.
I know that Digium is selling G.729 codec on there website. Should I get
that to fix my problem?
The less bandwitdh the codec takes over the Internet the better chance I
have that it will work fine I presume.
The maximum upload speed I can reach is 64k/sec so 512kbits. But that's
if there's nothing else using the internet. I see that G.729 use 8kbps
per call which seems quite small. The sound quality...

Guaranteed bandwidth per connection
Dear all,
I''ve got a working HTB configuration with iptables, fwmark, SFQ etc.
At the moment, I can mark traffic and give it a maximum bandwidth and a minimum guaranteed bandwidth, so far so good.
What I would like to do is the following:
In stead of defining a min/max for a certain type of traffic (e.g. http, ftp whatever), I would like to define a "minimum guaranteed bandwidth

Please help - totally confused (NAT + FWMARK + IMQ + HTB)
...so the router does SNAT
(and for some users having assigned a public IP address also DNAT)
5. For the traffic classification I need to use iptables (and MARK
target)
6. For the traffic shaping, I need to use HTB
7. Each user has only one IP address and should have allocated some
upload and download bandwitdh
8. I need to get both UPLOAD and DOWNLOAD shaping, based on user''s
private address
Please can someone post me some *really working* script for that? Or at
least tell me, where is my fault? I think it could be in sequence of
iptables calls, POSTROUTING/PREROUTING misunderstanding, etc......

Mutli-Homed Subnetting - Advice please
Hi All,
I have a problem with a growing network. I inherited the network at about
200 machines and it's now reached 300 at which point the cracks are
starting to show. I have no budget to speak of but need to up the
bandwitdh so I'm looking at sticking an extra Gigabit NIC into my PDC and
splitting the network into two subnets. I have two kinds of data, static
and dynamic. Static files are put there by higher rights users (teachers)
to be accessed read only by pupils. Dynamic data includes profiles and
users work....

about the traffic control
Hi, all:
I''m involved in the study about the QoS,but have some problems , hope
someone could help me answer:
1. Why most traffic shaping implement in the egress side (Uplink) rather
than the ingress side(Dnlink)?(e.g. why put the police rule on the smaller
bandwidth side but not put on the larger side)
2. I can''t differ the functionalities exactly

general shaping rules
Hi,
i dont fully understand this sentence, could someone be so kind to
expleain me it?
Any router performing a shaping function should be the bottleneck on the
link, and should be shaping slightly below the maximum available link
bandwidth. This prevents queues from forming in other routers, affording
maximum control of packet latency/deferral to the shaping device.

IAX with two asterisk boxes
Hello,
I have two asterisk boxes running and both are using DAHDI PRI Card. I wish
to know if IAX is the best method to connect both the boxes?
Also, need some help with the following?
1. For incoming call on server2 I wish to run an IVR to the user for which
all my prompt sound files resides on server1. Is there a way I can achieve
this?
2. I am also using .call file at times to make outgoing
