Understanding nonlinear optimization and Rosenbrock's banana valley function?
...cations (Wiley), especially for its key insights regarding parameter effects vs. intrinsic curvature. Before I spent time and money on several of the refences cited on the help pages for "optim", "nlm", etc., I thought I'd ask you all for your thoughts. ROSENBROCK'S BANANA VALLEY FUNCTION? Beyond this, I wonder if someone help me understand the lessons one should take from Rosenbrock's banana valley function: banana <- function(x){ 100*(x[2]-x[1]^2)^2+(1-x[1])^2 } This a quartic x[1] and a parabola in x[2] with a unique minimum at x[2]=x[1]=1. In which sense this is "significant"? Because if/when the Thomson is registered directly to DT, then Asterisk is not doing anything on the Banana. The fact that you get the problem with the Thomson registered directly to DT, but with the traffic still goi...

Optim stripping attributes from relistable objects
...ly work with vectors, but in many cases you would like to use a complex structure inside the objective function- relist is one way to do that. The problem is that optim appears to be stripping the attributes and therefore the example doesn't seem to run, giving the error at the bottom. > rb.banana <- function(params) { + #Params is initially a vector + cat("Params initially has the attributes:\n") + print(names(attributes(params))) + #Relisting it turns it into a list... + params <- relist(params) + cat("---------\n") + #..which can then be called in t...

Hello All, I'd like to read first words in lines into a new file. If I have a data file the following, how can I get the first words: apple, banana, strawberry? i1-apple 10$ New_York i2-banana 5$ London i3-strawberry 7$ Japan Is there any similar question already posted to the list? I am a bit new to R, having a few months of experience now. Cheers, John

Sessions question
Hi, I''m a little confused about sessions. I have two objects, object "Apple" and object "Banana". These two objects have an N:M relationship. What I am doing is listing All of the Banana objects that are associated with a single Apple, then below that listing all of the Banana objects not associated with that same Apple. The user is then allowed to change the associations for this...

Can you apply effects to elements create in same RJS file?
I am trying to create a new element in a list and highlight it. I am doing the following in my rjs file: page.insert_html :after, ''bananalist_header'', :partial => ''banana'' page.visual_effect :highlight, "banana#{banana.id}", :duration => 1 The first line creates a new element with the id= ''banana3'' say... The second line then tries to highlight the new element. This scrip...

Change the name of one column ONLY
Hi all, I have a very simple problem that I cannot seem to find the answer to. Consider the following toy dataset: x <- read.table(textConnection("V1 apples bananas cherries indv.1 7 8 4 3 indv.2 7 7 4 9"), header = TRUE) How would I change the column name of ONLY the first column, not the others? Surely I should not have to re-specify the names of ALL the columns -- e.g., colnames(x) <- c("pears", "apples", "bananas", &...

So far it does a reasonable job of analyzing the frequency distribution of packets in both directions, pointing out which direction packet loss / bad jitter occurs.  If you can trap the traffic on the outside and the inside of your Banana Pi and send me the pcap files, I would be happy to run it through our analyzer as further information for you.  If it shows DTK isn't sending packets when it should, that will be obvious, and you can send to them as solid evidence of their guilt :) Beyond that, are you certain you aren'...

Hey, we rated a dancing banana!
...be honest and I haven't done a thorough test of all available apps but so far everything is working very well, including loading up an example .world file! Even with compiz running! I have attached a screenshot showing the wine/linux/compiz/ETQW SDK goodness . I think this calls for a dancing banana! OS: Ubuntu Hardy Heron, latest updates. Wine version: 0.9.59 (compiled, as this version is not yet in Hardy repos). You need to have the game installed under wine as well (might be possible to use the native linux client but I haven't tested that yet). Once you have that, all you need to do...

storing DTMF inputs
Thanks a lot Danny. I have done the part of playing a file by creating a context in my dialplan. Now I am puzzled as i wish to store the DTMF inputs done by the users who is listening to the playback. I found there are ways, but some specific way by which it is not stored in file but conveyed directly to the asterisk server. When the call landed up on the softphone, i pressed keys the
