Wine Gecko 0.9.0
The announcement of Wine 1.1.12 mentions a new version of Wine Gecko, version 0.9.0. I have two questions: 1. What version of Gecko is this based on? Will this improve the way installed apps render pages? 2. How will this affect existing programs that have Wine Gecko 0.1.0 in their Wine environment? I have the old cab file in /usr/share/wine/gecko which gets installed whenever I wineboot. Will

Why is wineprefixcreate deprecated?
I understand that it is applied automatically when needed, but there are times when one would want to run it manually. An example is when I want to literally create a new wine prefix such as env WINEPREFIX="/home/bamm/apps/myprog" wineprefixcreate to prepare a clean profile for future installation of myprog. I know that running setup with a WINEPREFIX would create the clean profile, but sometimes I would want to copy a few needed files into the system32 folder before running setup. Hence, in this case, I w...

Running legacy batch files
I have several batch files from my windows installation that I've been using for many years, and I wonder what's the best way to transfer them to a Linux machine, without having to rewrite them as shell scripts. Some of these batch files call DOS programs and some call Win32 console programs. Unfortunately I have a few that has calls to both a DOS and a Win32 console program. The problem

Wine 1.0 release date to clash with Firefox 3
...that the Wine release would be drowned out in the euphoria and excitement for Firefox 3. I respectfully suggest, therefore, that we move the Wine 1.0 release date to another date besides June 17. This way we can attract more press and attention. I hope others agree with my observation. Regards, Bamm

Arguments for Plot()
...50) y = runif(50, -0.2, 0.2) plot.new() plot.window(xlim = c(-0.4, 0.4), ylim = c(-0.4, 0.4)) axis(1, at = seq(-0.4, 0.4, by = 0.2)) axis(2, at = seq(-0.4, 0.4, by = 0.2)) points(x, y) box()" BUT the function I found was something like this: plot(e,y, range='(20,-20)') BAMM, easy. I definitely remember typing 'range'. Any leads? [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Where does Wine store the Font settings?
...t works and shows up in wine applications. When I search the registry using regedit or by searching the .reg files at the root of the wine prefix, the custom Font settings don't appear. I guess it isn't stored in the registry, or is it? If not, where is it stored? Thanks for any info. :) Bamm

Ubuntu DEB Packages for Hardy?
Hi, I'm still running Ubuntu Hardy and I will upgrade when Lucid comes out. I just wish to know when the latest DEB files will come out? Wine updates seem to have stopped at wine-1.1.39. Please support Hardy until Lucid comes out. It's still the latest LTS. Bamm

Please update download page
The page http://www.winehq.org/download/deb gives the following instructions for installing Wine in Hardy: > For Ubuntu Hardy (8.04): > sudo wget http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/sources.list.d/hardy.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.list > However that repo is no longer being updated for Hardy. I suggest the website give the PPA as repo instead of budgetdedicated. Before I

Office XP - possible to install?
Hi all. I've *never* been able to install Office XP. I've had it running in CrossOver ( demo ), but my work is too stingy to pay for that, and yet I still want to install Office. At the moment my VirtualBox installation is becoming flaky. I've updated a fresh Ubuntu-8.04 installation to wine-1.0-rc1. I've then followed the instructions for installing on Gentoo ( install IE6 via

How to check an inactive slave in a bond?
...as active slave and eth2 as inactive slave (different cards/ different driver to be safe) some bozo reconfigures the switch port where your eth2 is plugged in and you don''t notice it (the crucial point here) later on, your eth0 dies (or is unplugged by the brother of the first bozo) and bamm... your nice HA node is off-line. note: eth2 is still plugged and fine at the mii level. even an arp would return OK so going from mii to arp for the bond is not the right option. So. How could I check that an IP packet send via eth2 would really reach its vlan? I tried a probably naive thing: i...

New winetricks 20080522: added directx9, wmp10, mono19; lots of bug fixes, nicer gui
Winetricks, described at http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks, is a handy tool for downloading bits and pieces that ought to be included in Wine or in Windows apps, but aren't yet for some reason. Since the last time I announced it on wine-users, I've added three new verbs: directx9, wmp10, and mono19 and fixed lots of bugs. The directx9 verb is experimental. Please try it and let me
