rsync over ssh with no cipher
>From what I can gather from googling, using rsync over ssh without a cipher is not possible since some changes to the openssh package. ?Is this true? ?I have been using a CPU friendly cipher but feel that it is best to use no cipher at all (secured network).
rsync -avxu --progress -e 'ssh -c arcfour128' /path/to/source/ user at server:/path/to/destination/
Thanks in advance!

rsync without POSIX ACLs
Hi,
I?m trying to rsync from an IBM SONAS, that has no POSIX ACLs.
I thought that without the ?p flag, this should still work, and the destination will just inherit permissions, however, it doesn?t.
My source directory on the SONAS looks like:
~$ ls -la /net/sonas/directory
d--------- 2 user group 36 Oct 9 12:59 ./
d--------- 2 user group 36 Oct 9 12:59 ../
---------- 2 user group

rsync takes long pauses in xfer ?
Hey folks,
I did some googling on this but did not come up with much. I'm using
rsnapshot which uses rsync, and I notice some pretty long pauses in
the xfers as you can see on this graph from "munin". THe machine in
question right at the moment is doing nothing but rsyncing (
rsnapshoting ) some 12T of NAS storage to local disk, so there is
nothing else going on at all.

Batch mode creates huge diffs, bug(s)?
So the short summary of my problem is, the batch file rsync creates is HUGE
for a very small change. The idea is to create workstation image with
partimage, update it with some software and send the image update diff over
the wire to a large number of destinations over a satellite link, but the
batch file updates are several orders of magnitude too large. I don't know
exactly how partimage

Samba + Bonding = Terrible Performance
Hello,
Please CC replies I'm not subscribed.
Performance with samba and only samba degrades terribly when we use
the bonding driver to aggregate two ethernet cards. Instead of a steady
file copy it seems to go in spurts. If I pull out one of the network
cables (doesn't matter which) performance resumes to full speed. I can
pull the cable in the middle of a transfer and it will go

software raid performance
Are there known performance issues with using glusterfs on software raid? I've
been playing with a variety of configs (AFR, AFR with Unify) on a two server
setup. Everything seems to work well, but performance (creating files,
reading files, appending to files) is very slow. Using the same configs on
two non-software raid machines shows significant performance increases.
Before I go a
