How to verify availability of the DID connection?
Hi all,
Occasionally, DIDs from different providers stop working for some reason.
I would like to be able to monitor situations like that and react before any of my clients start going ballistic on me.
Any ideas? Scripts you know of or wrote and willing to share?
Any info?would be greatly appreciated.
?

Strange crashes and disconnection from PDC?
...00 48 00 00 00 00 ...H....
0058: 00 00 00 00 ....
I'll be glad if anyone has any ideas... Is this is a known issue in
2.2.4? Has it been resolved? Isn't the SMB Magic supposed to be in the
beggining of the packet and not in the middle? Could this be some
buffer going ballistic and screwing up the alignment of the packet
with something else, consequently causing a SIGSEGV?
Thanks,
Nir.

music on hold without mpg123
Hello list,
after the last time that mpg123 wen ballistic on our production system, we
decided to skip mp3 playback altogether and to go for raw files. After
half an hour playing with mpg123 and sox parameters in order to translate
a mp3 file to a wav file that can be streamed back through * with no need
for an mp3 decoder, I thought I'd pos...

Determining if swap memory is turned off
...er to run some performance tests on optimization tools, I want to
be able
to avoid the use of swap memory. In *nix systems, at least Linux ones, I
can issue
a 'sudo swapoff -a' command and use just the RAM available. If I don't
do this, at
some point swap will be used, the disk goes ballistic and the machine is
unresponsive
because it is thrashing data to the swap. I suspect others have
encountered this
too. Clearly I'd rather fail out than get into the thrashing situation.
Generally I
prefer no swap -- memory is cheap enough that it is easier not to worry
about these
sorts o...

TS model
...ime series analysis. I know I can
complete the tasks involving VARMA using either dse or mAr (and I think
there are a couple others that might serve).
However, there is one task that I am not sure of the best way to proceed.
A simple example illustrates what I am after. If you think of a simple
ballistic problem, with a vector describing current position in 3
dimensions, the components of that vector are simple functions of initial
position, initial velocity (constants, for our purposes) and time. It is
trivial calculus to compute these values at arbitrary time using only
initial conditions and...

Dark side of the force and multiple db's
...e for
instance, network people uplink servers and ''server'' people uplink
''switches'' and ''analysts'' support ''apps'' that run on ''servers''.
VERY quickly we had basic databases, (except the network guys who went
ballistic), all with similar interfaces individual logons and search
vacilities. BEAUTIFUL. However I wanted to AT LEAST be able to share
values within drop down menus on thins that were similar.
To make a long story even longer with one more question:
Would I benefit NOW by moving all these databases...

OH DEAR! - RE: 2.2.2 runaway SMBD process
...read-only 'Outlook
Express.lnk' file was involved. This quite often causes problems with
profiles being saved on our Novell centred network. To recreate it I made
the Internet Explorer and Desktop shortcuts on the Quick Launch bar
read-only as well. Sure enough the smbd got lost and went ballistic at
login.
That is 'login' - I had logged out and logged in again so the read-only
links were written to the Samba share and it was on logging in again that
the problem occurred. Obviously you can track it through but I would have
thought that it was a straight forward read from the Samb...

Supporting ~10K users on ZFS
OK, I know that there''s been some discussion on this before, but I''m not sure that any specific advice came out of it. What would the advice be for supporting a largish number of users (10,000 say) on a system that supports ZFS? We currently use vxfs and assign a user quota, and backups are done via Legato Networker.
