Error in file(file, "r")
Hello,
I am a new user of R, and I am not able to read/scan external files. I am
working in a Linux environment. I have read through the R FAQ and documents
and have not been successful using the recommendations. Below are several
scripts I've used and the error messages. .
I've cc'd Brandon Whitcher because it was recommended in another FAQ. I
read that this is a bug that

Dot plot - equivalent of MINITAB
hi folks,
Bit of a newbie, but I've spent a fair bit of time looking for an answer on
this, with no joy. Can anyone help me?
Dataset: A single column of values in a csv file (eg. 52, 53, 54, 85, etc)
Goal: In Minitab, you have what they call a dot plot. It's a histogram,
where a single dot represents a set of identical values (eg. 57, 57, 57
would be one dot). Multiple dots are

Need help on Coxph
...on <- coxph( Surv(time, cancer) ~ RP11_181G12 , data=Rossi2)
mod.allison <- coxph( Surv(time, cancer) ~ RP11_62M23 , data=Rossi2)
I have no problem getting the result. However, since there are 4309 columns
(counted begining at the 5th column), I decide to make a 4309*1 matrix
(called "BACs") to store the name of each column. Then run a loop like:
for (i in 1:4309){
mod.allison <- coxph( Surv(time, cancer) ~ BAC[i,1], data=Rossi2)
}
mod.allison
However, I got the error. Would you like to give me some suggestions about
this?
Many thanks in advance!

modem not initialised
...i all,
I have one last windows programme to get working under wine before I can
ditch my company's last windows pc, but so far I am stumped by it. The
programme is supplied by our bank & is used to dial up to the bank, log into
the network & do things like viewing statements, making bacs payments etc.
The programme runs fine but when I try to connect to the bank I get an error
message saying that the modem cannot be initialised.
Here's all the info I have:
wine version 9.9.22 (all other versions I have tried do the same)
distribution Debian Sarge

rsync problem on cygwin
Hi,
I have few rsync problems on latest version of cygwin and rsync.
1. if the file already exist, the rsync goes into hang. I have
--progress and it says 1 file to consider
rsync -Cav --ignore--existing --progess test.bac /backup
First time above command works
second time it hangs!!!
2. If I do control c on Cygwin I still see rsync process running.
Probably, this is not question for this

Need to study and learn about better plots
Hi,
So far my plotting needs have been sort of ignored as I got
acquainted with R this week, but now that I have the basics in place
for the program I wanted to write it's time for me to start learning
about how to make output that better suits my needs. I think I have
two sort of charts I need to concentrate on learning how to produce:
1) Probably a trivial request - a single chart that

frequency table-visualization for complex categorical variables
Dear R users,
I have three questions measuring close relationships.
The questions are same and the respondents put the answer in order.
I'd like to examine the pattern of answers and visualize it.
For example q1 (A,B,C,D,E) and q2 and q3 are the same. If the respondents
selects A B C (so BCA or BAC or CBA or CAB), I'd like to construct
frequency table for ABC and other combinations for

Start with a tab-delimited or comma-delimited text file created on the Mac and
use read.table("filename.txt", header=T) to read it in. When the first column of
