Thanks

Samba AD Backup
I want to backup my Samba AD. I have found and read the following: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Backup_and_restore_an_Samba_AD_DC The guide refers to a script in the source however I have installed straight from the package manager. Is there a script/guide available that does not need the source?

...is script assumes you have included 'usr/local/samba/bin' as part of your path variable for root./" The script will fail with mention of a status code. However looking through the script, I see no mention of what these codes mean. Thoughts? Thanks. https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Backup_and_restore_an_Samba_AD_DC -- -James

Problem with backup and initiation
Hello guys I have two questions. 1 - I installed Samba 4 in debian 8 via apt and watched the referenced backup script that link https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Backup_and_restore_an_Samba_AD_DC does not exist in Samba installed via apt. How do I bacxkup the Samba4 AD installed by apt? 2 - In another client installed in order compiled via source code in debian 8, everything working, but the startup script that is in this link is not working. https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba4/InitSc...

Restoring single DC virtual machine
...ain, but maybe one day. I know it is better to install more than one DC to have replication, but in a so small setup, would it be possible to rely only on VM restoration in case of a problem (physical server broken, wrong manipulation on AD LDAP…)? I have read https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Backup_and_restore_an_Samba_AD_DC, but it is still noted as a draft. I have also read https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/d2cae85b-41ac-497f-8cd1-5fbaa6740ff and it seems that the problems, when restoring a VM backup, comes only from replication between DC. This makes me think that it would be OK, but what do you think ?...

Ok, "sysvol" won't exist on member servers, of course. Besides that, are all relevant Samba databases located in "private"? -- Btw, regarding the use of the script for DCs: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Backup_and_restore_an_Samba_AD_DC I have to cron this as root: 0 2 * * * root /usr/sbin/samba_backup And I have to put the full path to "tdbbackup" in the script (or otherwise make sure the correct path is recognized via /etc/crontab). Would be nice to have this in the Wiki. Ole Am 08.12.2015 um 15:26 schrie...

Samba 4 DC backups
I have a few Samba 4.2 DC in production now and figured that I should do something about backups. I have read https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Backup_and_restore_an_Samba_AD_DC and had a look through the samba_backup script and have a few questions. Firstly I am using the Sernet packages on Centos7. I am assuming the following mappings from the script for my set up /usr/local/samba/etc is /etc/samba /usr/local/samba/private is /var/lib/samba/private /usr/local/samba/sy...
