[Bug 3116] New: large tar files: 1 gig size: retransmitted: rsync_rsh
...: x86 OS/Version: FreeBSD Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P3 Component: core AssignedTo: wayned@samba.org ReportedBy: drinking.coffee@gmail.com QAContact: rsync-qa@samba.org Once a week, I'm performing an offsite backup. These files are each 1 gig in size, average speedup is 1.18. Rsync does the initial run, and then send some of the tar files again. I initially thought the archives were too large, so I reduced them to 512M, but had the same symtoms. My next step, is to install an rsync daemon on the remote end....

3Ware 9650SE and XFS problems under Centos 5.3
...self. So at this point I'm not sure where the problem lies. Is it the card that is faulty/problematic or is it something with the XFS file system? I'll take the XFS problem first as it's the most recent. Rsync and differential Backups
Hi list, how to perform a differential backup using rsync? On web there is a great confusion about diff backup concept when searched with rsync. Users says diff because it copy only differences. For me differential is backup from last full backup. Other users says that to perform a differential backup I must include in rsync command: --b...

small security-related rsync extension
Included below is a shar archive containing two patches that together: 1) make backup files get their setuid and setgid bits stripped by default 2) add a "-s" option that allows backup files to continue to have these privileges This means that if you update a collection of binaries with rsync, and one or more of them has a local-root security problem, the backup file(s)...

C7 Backup problem
Good morning list, I've a question about backup performed with bacula. I manage a DELL server (dedicated on provider) with C7. I use bacula as backup system with volumes on disk. System performs mon-sat incremental backups and Sun full backup at 03.00 AM. I've another pool (named update) where I performs backup before each software update...

1 TByte (99,5%) data missing on rsync backup???
Hi, I have a weird problem with RSync: On a NAS are about 1,2 TB data. When I plug in a harddisk and make a backup with RSync, "df -h" shows the backup disk filling up to nearly 1,2 TB. But after RSync has finished, there are only 3.7 GB on the backup disk. Problem with incremental backup - copies instead of hard links
...e, I'm using this version of rsync: localhost:~ mzehetle$ /usr/local/bin/rsync --version rsync version 2.6.0 protocol version 27 Copyright (C) 1996-2004 by Andrew Tridgell and others HFS+ filesystem support for OSX (C)2004 Kevin A. Boyd <http://rsync.samba.org/> Basically incremental backup (--link-dest option) works with a destination on my local volume but not with a destination on a firewire volume. I have no idea why. The only difference between the scripts is the destination and --link-dest path. If both paths are on the local harddisk, it works properly, if the path is on a...

link-dest and batch-file
Hello. I need that during today's backup, the metadata about the files is saved in a file, so that tomorrow when creating a backup with the option "link-dest" instead of this option I would specify a file with metadata, then rsync will not scan the folder specified in "link-dest", but simply reads...

Handling of backup files - two new features proposed
...SHA1 Dear list members, there are two new rsync-features I made up and would like to discuss with you. If you think these new features might be useful for the whole rsync-community, please give me a note and I'll send you the patches (or post them here). 1.) Setting owner and/or group of backup files. In our servers I'm using rsync to backup to a hot standby machine. The users have access to this backup-server too, so that they can retrieve older versions of their files. At the same time the backup copies should not count in the user's quota (and/or should only be deletable by ro...
