...efile size = 16384 aio read size = 16384 aio write size = 16384 client max protocol = SMB3 # <--------------- acl allow execute always = yes Is it possible that a higher protocol will be negotiated with modern clients with these options? Can I quiet these messages with print notify backchannel = no (no connection attemps from server to client)? Shouldn't the "print notify backchannel" default be "no" in 4.1.5 regarding https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-technical/2013-October/095492.html and https://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2009/01/16/understandi...

Not a User Yet - but have some questions
...g with a phone system. The entire appartment is getting broadband, with Cat6 Cables into each appartment and fibre down the trunk. I was hoping to have PSTN in the basement connecting to the IP system. Today I found out however that one of the services will be paid TV - and it will need a PSTN backchannel - ie a modem. The set top devices don't support IP, they have modems built in, and I don't believe they are willing to provide an alternative. Also, the tenants may wish to call IP services via modem, or use a Fax. My question: Can you run modems/Fax over VoIP?

Printing: Request to make return connection to client optional samba 3.5.x
Hi We have a network of Samba print-stations. There are complains from users of slow printing, which can be tracked to the return-connection which samba-server makes to print-client for dynamic update of printer-status. Since samba-servers are on different subnets than print-clients, the return-connection from samba to windows-client always fails in windows-firewall, but the tries to build up

R interface for blind users: Summary
...<URL:http://emacspeak.sourceforge.net/> - Roopakshi Pathania [r_akshi_tgk at yahoo.com] suggested using R in Linux, where 2 screen readers (Speakup for text console, Orca for Gnome) are available. For Windows she suggested NVDA (a free and open screen reader, http://www.nvda-project.org/). Backchannel she also mentioned an event for visually impaired students interested in Science and Math: http://www.icchp.org/programme/summeruniversity. I' like to thank everybody for their valuable input, and especially Mr. Murdoch for his programming efforts which solved the problem. You are terrific!...

Comet/Continuations/Armeggedon
...l the innovation that is going into Rails apps now, it could produce some really thrilling applications. I know that there is some talk around about something called "Armageddon", which I believe achieves basically the same end, but requires Flash on the client side to manage the backchannel socket. In any case, the requirements on the server side for tolerating huge numbers of idle connections are similar. Any thoughts or comments are appreciated. Best Regards, Danny Burkes
