Centos kernel c headers [dnk]
Good day -- I am having a go at installing VMware on my centos 4.2
machine. I am going through the configuration script and I am getting
to the part where I need the c headers for my kernel. What package do
I need to install to make these available, and where are they
installed to? I have been searching for this with little luck.
Thanks in advance.

Push install printers from a samba server
Hi there. I was wondering if anyone had a link to a good tutorial (or docs) in regards
to setting up a push install of printers (HP 4200N) from a samba server (CentOS 4) to a
mixed windows (98,2k,xp) enviorment. Now I have been investigating using a BAT file in a
logon script, but the results seem to be unpredictable (maybe i am usign them wrong?).
Then permissions on the target machine seem to be

whacked keyboard behavior CLI
Hi there --- for some reason I am getting really weird keyboard behavior
on the CLI (no xfs or anything running). Centos 4.4 yummed up.
For example if i type "root" to login, I get "rot" or sometimes
"roooooot". Then other times I will have to press a key like 3 times to
get a double character.
Now at first I thought maybe it was the keyboard, but it seems to

cloning drives
Good day everyone - This maybe somewhat OT, but I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good tool for
cloning *nix drives. The one thing though is that I will be cloning a smaller drive than the destination drive and
would like to distribute the free space accordingly on the new drive.
Can anyone recommend anything?
Thanks in advance.

firewall based antivirus/trojan blocking and intrusion detection [dnk]
Can anyone recommend an opensource package (preferably something centos 4X compatible)
that can be used on a (iptables) firewall to block virus/trojan, etc? And maybe
something for intrusion detection?
Thanks!

disable media check on custom cd [dnk]
On a previous thread I was working on a custom install disk that would boot directly
into a vnc install - well I have the disk working exactly as I need it EXCEPT for 1
thing... the option to do a media check pops up... however as per my original email -
there will be no keyboard/mouse/monitor attached during install... so I can not press
the "skip" option. Now to get the VNC install to

slightly OT: high availability remote managerment tools
This is completely OFF TOPIC from centos and slightly vague, so please reply to me
direct. I just want to pick everyone's brains here for their experience with high
availability remote management (servers, networks, etc).
Can anyone recommend any good high availability remote managerment tools. I mean
something more than ssh, nagios, etc. Anything from appliances to monitoring, remote
access,

yum group install [DNK]
Hi there -- i am just looking for clarification on the yum "group
install" option....
How can you tell what are valid groups?
IE I found the below example on google:
yum groupinstall "MySQL Database"
I have heard references to doing things like:
yum groupinstall "Development Tools"
But to the point - is there a list of valid groups for install?

CentOS with VMware issues
Good day everyone.....
I have an install of centos 4.0 patched to 4.2 as my base install. I
then installed VMWare 3.2 (gx) over top. I was then going through
the install of centos 4.2 (non-patched - latest ISO's) into a virtual
machine. Now here is where the issue happens.... on the install, the
file "xorg-x11" causes a typical "file can not be access/ file not

N/A
Hi there - I was wondering - is there a way to add a group to be a member of another
group. I am setting up a samba server and the client site has a need for many different
permissions on many subfolders -- so this seems to be the logical way.
Thanks in advance!

small "$" issue with samba on centos 4x [dnk]
Good day..... This is a slightly older issue for me. In the past I
had tried to install Samba on a centos 4.0 box, and the useradd tool
on Centos 4 would not add the "$" character to the usernames being
created. This showed up whenever a domain trust was trying to be
established for a computer that was logging into the samba share for
the first time. Maybe I messed something

custom vnc install disk [dnk]
Hi all.... I had posted hte following on teh centos forums, and thought there might be
additional people in here who do not browse those forum, so after 4 days I am posting
over here as well (sorry for the double - but figured after 4 days it was safe to do so).
Hi there.... I am trying to make a custom centos server cd that will essentially do the
following:
throw the disk in, boot the machine,
