udial.wav problem
I was doing some testing with RC2 and I noticed that RC2 doesn't
encode past 19kHz with this clip (-b256 and -b350). There are no
problems with this clip like it was before, but this clip contains
signal past 19kHz which is audible as a faint high-frequency hiss -
and that hiss is gone in the encoded file since RC2 cuts off at 19kHz.
I think that -b256 and -b350 should encode at least up to 19.5kHz.

...Good job there! :-)
- Velvet.wav also sounds better, but transparent quality is reached
at -b256+.
- Horn.wav still sounds very sucky, mode -b256 gives ~100kbps (this
is understandable because in this sample practically there are no sounds
above 5kHz) but the artifacts can be easily heard. Mode -b350 gives
~310kbps but still there is a difference (subtle though). I also noticed
that you get similar artifacts when you encode simple tones (like 440Hz or
1kHz), no matter what bitrate is used.
- The most occurring artifact in -b128,160,192 modes is pre-echo (-b256+
seems to be free from this curse...

<p>I only have one problem now: what quality value should I use to match the
quality of Garf's tuned -b350 RC2 mode (while using lower bitrate :) )?
Ah, back to good old listening tests... :))

Thanks! Gonna hold off until 7.4 is more than 3-weeks old.

USB drive very slow on CentOS 8
...th LVM. It's connected
to a USB 3.0 port.
On CentOS 7, the drive performance is reasonable. On CentOS 8,
performance is extremely slow, about USB 1.0 performance. Maybe worse.
Connecting an external USB SSD to the CentOS 8 system appears to perform
well.
I've updated the ASUS Prime-B350-Plus motherboard with the latest BIOS,
but it doesn't appear to make any difference.
Does anyone have any idea what might be different between CentOS 7 and 8
that would cause this?

Public announcement yet?
So, are the mailing list and software behaving well enough to make a public
invitation about joining the beta testing yet?

Everyone happy?
There hasn't been any mailing list activity for almost a week.
Is it that we are all happy and just waiting for meta-data

Beta4 artifact/bug in the bass area
Hi!
Today, I found an encoding bug with a new tune by me.
http://www.uni-karlsruhe.de/~us87/ogg/vorbis_bassrumble_demo.rar (2.1MB)
contains the original .WAV in 16bit/44.1kHz and an .OGG encoded at
350kbit/s. I found the bug when listening to the 128kbit/s version, but
encoding it with that high bitrate didn't change a thing.
The deep bassdrum contains a rumbling, knocking sound (the first

root-partition
Hi all,
I've been working with the ext3-fs for several months (since 0.0.2c),
and it works pretty fine for me, but I haven't found out, how I works to
migrate my root-partition from ext2 to ext3.
I tried it with the commands at the lilo-prompt, but it didn't work.
I only received a kernel panic.
Any ideas, how I can migrate to ext3 on my root-partition?
tnx,
Joachim
