Memory consumption for rsync -axv --delete
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 If you were using --link-dest to make multiple backups you wouldn't need --delete because the target is always a new empty directory (with - --link-dest pointing to the previous backup run). So, you get the benefit of having multiple backups to restore from and rsync doesn't have to --delete. When you run low on space you just rm - -rf some

Memory consumption for rsync -axv --delete
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 You miss-understand the purpose of --link-dest. Yes, it gives you multiple complete backups, but each only consumes the disk space needed to store files that are unique to that backup. Files that are the same in 2 backup runs are actually the same file in multiple directories requiring only 1 to actually be stored. On 03/27/2016 02:39 AM, John Long

Memory consumption for rsync -axv --delete
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 You will have an old backup dir and a new backup dir. The new one will contain all the current stuff. Thanks I'll look this up. There is still the issue of how to get the target box cleaned up since I can no longer run --delete. /jl On Sun, Mar 27, 2016 at 02:49:02AM -0400, Kevin Korb wrote: > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > Hash: SHA1 > > You miss-understand the purpose of --link-dest. Memory consumption for rsync -axv --delete
Hi, I have been using rsync for many years and never had any kind of problem. Lately I am running out of RAM trying to do an incremental backup to a box that only has 2G of RAM. The entire directory structure I'm mirroring is about 200G of files. A minority of subdirectories have many files. Is there a way to do an incremental backup with --delete option that does not use as much memory? Is

MIME Types and File Extensions
Hi All, On the Xiph Wiki page at: https://wiki.xiph.org/MIME_Types_and_File_Extensions I added Opus to several of the sections, but wasn't sure whether to add "Theora + Opus" to: .ogv - video/ogg .axv - video/annodex As far as I can tell, according to the Opus FAQ at: https://wiki.xiph.org/OpusFAQ#Will_Opus_replace_Vorbis_in_video_files.3F Theora + Opus is possible but not recommended. Could somebody more knowledgeable than me please review this. Many thanks, Martin -- Martin J Leese E-...

...* named addressing of time offsets: http://annodex.net/TR/draft-pfeiffer-cmml-03.txt For completeness' sake I also want to mention that through CMML we have defined a means to address time offsets into ogg file (with skeleton and cmml) by name. This looks e.g. like http://example.com/sample.axv?id=dolphin So: in summary, I agree with Ian and we have a simple way to introduce this kind of addressing using Skeleton. We should probably pick up editing of the mentioned I-Ds again and include what we learn through this process. Cheers, Silvia. On 9/9/07, Ian Malone <ibmalone@gmail.com&...

Troubleshooting RSYNC
Greetings, I am having a problem with rsync deleting entire folders and files and then attempting to recopy the entire contents of the folder(s) even though they are up to date. The task is syncing from ubuntu (rsync version 3.1.1) to windows using cygwin (rsync version 3.1.2). I have a number of these configurations, and they all work except this one. I use the modify-window=600 and cannot
