I don't believe that is correct. LSI acquired 3ware, and Avago acquired LSI. So, Avago owns the 3ware and LSI technology, but Adaptec and Areca are still competitors. > Whoops, Avago is now Broadcom, a company I lik...

Avago (LSI) SAS-3 controller, poor performance on CentOS 7

The driver version difference between C6 and C7 could interact badly with old firmware. What firmware does $vendor suggest? Does C7 in BIOS mode work any better? Run `lsiget` and compare lsi tech support bundles.

CentOS 6, mptfusion software?
...It *appears* that a) trying MegaRaid, and b) from what I'm googling, that what I need are mptfusion-related packages. Unfortunately, yum shows me nothing available in base, epel, or rpmfusion. Am I looking for the wrong thing, or does anyone have a source (no, I haven't looked at LSI, sorry Avago's website, which I don't find overly friendly...) mark

Avago (LSI) SAS-3 controller, poor performance on CentOS 7
I have a handful of new systems where I've seen unexpectedly low disk performance on an Avago SAS controller, when using CentOS 7. It looked like a regression, so I installed CentOS 6 on one of them and reloaded CentOS 7 on the other. Immediately after install, a difference is apparent in the RAID rebuild speed. The CentOS 6 system is initializing its software RAID5 array at somewhere...

I've not been very happy with the level of support Avago is offeriong for older products, and I've *never* liked Adaptec. Whoops, Avago is now Broadcom, a company I like even less for broken closed source firmware and tota...

low end file server with h/w RAID - recommendations
...ill. Another company that's ok is ThinkMate, though their support ain't great, I think they're better than HP...oh, sorry, for a server, it'll be HPE (the company divided a year or two ago). If you get a Dell, and one of their PERC cards, you're getting a rebranded LSI, sorry, Avago, um, who bought it last? Those are good and reliable, not super expensive. Next question: you want RAID, how much storage do you need? Will 4 or 8 3.5" drives be enough (DO NOT GET crappy 2.5" drives - they're *much* more expensive than the 3.5" drives, and smaller disk space. F...

SCSI drives and Centos 7
...dropped from newer OS releases. Those raid controllers require not only specific drivers, but also support utilities for monitoring the status of the raids, and configuring them. The Megaraid family started back under NCR/Symbios in the late 80s, LSI acquired what was left of Symbios in 1998, Avago acquired LSI in 2014, then merged with Broadcom in 2016 (as I understand it, Avago acquired Broadcom, but then renamed themselves). Sadly, support for legacy hardware tends to evaporate in corporate takeovers as its seen as pure overhead. -- john r pierce, recycling bits in santa cruz
