...y, she will have access to the
share without needing the password. Is there a way to make Samba ask for
the password again?
Initially I thought I could just set the deadtime and keepalive options so
the connection would be terminated if it is not used for a while. But
apparently Windows just autoreconnects.
I tried restarting the Samba service but that doesn't work either.
Even "smbcontrol smbd close-share * " doesn't prevent autoreconnection.
In the O'Reilly book "Using Samba" (second edition) the section on
Share-Level Security mentions a REVALIDATE=YES option whic...

Simple Samba Guide (Here it is)
I made a page to help anyone who simply wants these things:
1) Samba to work.
2) Shortest amount of steps.
3) Autoreconnect at login to work.
I've condensed setting up samba into four easy steps.
I hope this helps a lot of people.

Some bricks are offline after restart, how to bring them online gracefully?
...en you have many bricks?
Networks is definitely stable and other servers use it without problem and
all servers run on a same pair of switches. My assumption is that in the
same time many bricks try to connect and that doesn?t work.
2. Is there an option to configure a brick to enable some kind of
autoreconnect or add some timeout?
gluster volume set brick123 option456 abc ??
3. What it the recommend way to fix offline brick on the affected server? I
don?t want to use ?gluster volume stop/start? since affected bricks are
online on other server and there is no reason to completely turn it off.
Thank you,...

...eed to know a few things.
1) are all the node of the same version.
2) did you check grepping for the brick process using the ps command?
need to verify is the brick is still up and is not connected to glusterd alone.

If the brick process is not seen in the ps aux | grep glusterfsd
The way to start a brick is to use the volume start force command.
If brick is not started there is no point configuring it. and to start
a brick we cant
use the c...

Deadtime parameter questsion
Hello samba gurus !
I'm using samba 3.0.21c on AIX 5.3 box .
I've specified deadtime=15 in my smb.conf file and I'm expecting that
inactive sessions ( has no open files ) will be
closed after 15 minutes . I'm connecting to samba from my PC
( win2000 ) , minimizing the window and waiting
15 minutes ... but nothing happens - smbd opened by my connection is
still running , window

Explorer & MS Office hang
I'm running samba 2.0.7 on Solaris 2.6. We've have terrific success for well over a year with samba until about a week ago I started receiving reports that users could not open MS Office docs saved on a samba share. The samba logs are full of information about oplocks like this:
[2001/03/07 10:14:04, 0] smbd/oplock.c:request_oplock_break(1204)
request_oplock_break: no response

FW: RE: Explorer & MS Office hang
...nning in some sort of loop; which would explain why you are
not getting an oplock break reply from them.
If you are the only one accessing the file, then the most likely senario is
that the smbd that you were attached to when you opened the file got in
this 'bad' state, and your pc did an autoreconnect the next time you tried
to access anything on that server (which would spawn a NEW smbd). Then when
you try to access the file, your NEW smbd tries to send an oplock break to
the old smbd, which is hung and not replying. What we'll need to find out
from the logs is WHAT the old smbd was doing...
