Samba and solaris automountd
Hello folks, I have posted a message similar to this on the solaris list. I'm trying to export a number of shares that are automounted under a common directory, i.e, /prog. Under /prog, I have directories such as /prog/one, /prog/two, /prog/three, /prog/four e.t.c; some of the directories are from the same nfs server, others are from different nfs servers. The beauty of automounting /prog

automountd hangs
Hi Samba admins, I was wondering if any of you had problems with your automounter with Samba ? My environment is: Samba 1.9.17p4 on a Sparc20 running Solaris 2.5.1 with the home directories defined in the NIS+ tables. The client are all Win95 PC. Lately, we lose the automounter on the Sun host. Even logged in as root on the console I cannot 'cd' to the /home directory. We have

problems with win98/smbd/automount and DNS lookups
...e (initiated by that win 98 machine). log.smbd reports a single error:- [1999/09/19 19:01:54, 0] smbd/dir.c:dptr_close(275) Invalid key 256 given to dptr_close At the same time the solaris machine on which the samba server is running starts swamping the DNS servers with lookup requests and the automountd process starts swelling in size. Shutting the win98 machine down doesn't stop the smbd processes although new well behaved processes do start up. Some 12 hours later the automountd process swells to the size of the available swap space on the solaris machine (locking that up) and the local ne...

automounter with users home directories on centos 7.
----- Original Message ----- | Not tried automount with Centos 7 nor with selinux. | | With that said autofs relies on nfs mounting to work, so have you | started there by attempting to manually mount /home? | | Another place to look is at the hostname. I've had problems where auto | mount doesn't like the short name and insists on using a FQDN, to get | around that you could try using

(Fwd) Linux autofs overflow in 2.0.36+
...eyond it, and causes kernel errors or makes the machine reboot. Overview of Automount drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 0 Feb 18 17:40 misc The autofs module provides support for the automount filesystem, as well as the interface between the kernel and the automountd daemon, which is responsible for the actual mounting. Calls such as chdir() executed in the automount directory are handled by the module, and if the desired directory is defined in the configuration files, automountd then mounts that directory/device. ZFS Locking Up periodically
I''ve recently re-installed an X4500 running Nevada b109 and have been experiencing ZFS lock ups regularly (perhaps once every 2-3 days). The machine is a backup server and receives hourly ZFS snapshots from another thumper - as such, the amount of zfs activity tends to be reasonably high. After about 48 - 72 hours, the file system seems to lock up and I''m unable to do anything

FW: samba woes
All, I have been working on a component that is included with samba called SMBSH. The binary allows you to automount your NT shares by accessing your profile . I have been working on this for the last few days and have been unsuccesful at getting it work. Now I am not much of a programmer, but I did my best to try and troubleshoot this. However it just does not want to work in Linux. I

Backups on external USB HDD
Hi, I'm trying to implement this: I have: - A windows 2000 server - A centos 4 server - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Monthly. The tape drive in the windows server died recently and I decided to switch to USB external drives. However, the USB controller in the windows server is only 1.1, so it is very slow. I didn't want to install a 2.0 USB controller in the

Supporting ~10K users on ZFS
OK, I know that there''s been some discussion on this before, but I''m not sure that any specific advice came out of it. What would the advice be for supporting a largish number of users (10,000 say) on a system that supports ZFS? We currently use vxfs and assign a user quota, and backups are done via Legato Networker. >From what little I currently understand, the general
