HABTM Dependency Question
I have a habtm relationship like the following:
Automobile <--> Options
What I want to do is when an option is deleted, make sure that there
are no Automobiles that still have that option. It seems simple
enough, but I am having a tough time with it. I believe Rails
automagically deletes the relationships when the automobile is
deleted, but not the other way around.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Jason

seemingly simple read.table question
I have a file that I thought would be fairly simple to read in using read.table but I am having problems ( as usual ).
each line of the file is of the form ( just 20 lines or so )
financials XXX, YYY, ZZZ
automobiles RTR, ABC, TGH
so the first field in the line is the industry and the other fields
( seperated by commas ) in the line are stock identifiers of stocks
in that industry. note that there is no comma between the industry
and the first stock identifier in the group which i guess might
complicate things...

ActiveRecord and Form Data Coupling: A Bad Design
I have to say that after being a Rails user for some time I have grown
to really dislike how ActiveRecord (AR) classes - models - are being
pushed as the defacto method for getting form data into the DB. The
two concepts are completely separate and should be handled by
completely different classes.
Anyone who understands Object Oriented Design knows that we separate
classes based on

pam_winbind succeeds but pam_unix fails !
Hi, I am attempting to authenticate ssh access against users in active directory using winbind + pam . Unfortunately all they receive is "permission denied, please try again". A tail -f of /var/log/messages reveals :

Search for (any of) multiple terms slow

Hi,
this may be an obvious logical problem I'm not aware of, which cannot be solved
any more efficiently... but maybe it's just a bug or there is potential for
optimisation in Dovecot (or Thunderbird?).
When searching for multiple terms at once ("any of") with Thunderbird/Dovecot
(using FTS Squat indexes), it takes much longer (not

Enable Contributions Through Pull-request For LLVM
I'm not sure the idea that enabling pull requests will make it easier
for new contributors is fully thought out. Just because more people
might be familiar with GitHub, doesn't mean it is superior. I've found
the workflow on Phabricator to be really easy. I think many people
agree that Phabricator is really good, I don't think we would want to
get rid of Phabricator and while its

Patch: Groups per authentication method
Hello all,
I have done small patch for OpenSSH 3.5p1.
With this patch you can specify allowed user groups per

Merb, Mongrel+Erb
Hey there folks-
I''m happy to announce the first useable release of my new pocket-
framework Merb. Merb is a mongrel handler with built in controller
and view templating with erb. It has a nice routing system similar to
rails but much simpler. It uses some of the code from the camping
handler and the rails handler and then some of its own secret sauce
to form imho a nice fast
