Samba-related info on disconnected NT networkshares
...ies to: - Microsoft Windows NT Workstation versions 3.5, 3.51, 4.0 - Microsoft Windows NT Server versions 3.5, 3.51, 4.0 - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - --- SUMMARY ======= This article documents the Windows NT local area network (LAN) related Autodisconnect parameter. Windows NT uses two different Autodisconnect parameters; one for disconnecting Remote Access Service (RAS) connections and another for disconnecting LAN connections. The RAS Autodisconnect parameter is well documented in the Windows NT Server Remote Access Service manual on page 82, but...

Red crosses on Mapped drives
I am getting red crosses on the mapped drives of some win2k pro machines connecting to a samba pdc. I don't have them logging into the domain and the drives are disconnecting (it happens on win2k server too). There is a parameter for win2k server to autodisconnect the drive after 15 minutes which can be changed with: net config server /autodisconnect:TIME and there is a registry key in win2k for autodisconnect set for 15 minutes. Is there something on samba that autodisconnects clients? Just wondering since I am getting autodisconnect quite a bit only by...

Win2k disconnects mapped samba shares
...u access the 'sleeping' connection. But it does not work on the samba drives. it gets reconnected somehow after a few pop-ups telling you the connection is no longer available and some weird things. there is a Key in \\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters called LAN Autodisconnect with a valid range of -1 to 65535 -1 is disable. But it does not disable this 'feature' LanmanServer is maybe not really the right place either? Any idea how to stop this behaviour and keep the connections active? This would be very much appreciated. TIA, Werner

share persistence problem
After awhile, my connections from my PC to my samba server end up with a red "X" in them (share disappeared) if I leave my explorer window open. If I click on these, they "wake up" and continue to function (and the red X's go away). If I close my explorer window (while the red X's are there) and reopen it , they are gone. An attempt to reestablish these

Ports in close state
I have a machine running redhat 6.2 and samba 2.0.6 that does a persistent mount to my Windows 2000 machine for the purposes of serving files via FTP. The samba connection occasionally times out it seems, I get the message smb_request: result -32, setting invalid smb_retry: new pid=20679, generation=12 and it generates a new connection I've got SO_KEEPALIVE active in the socket options in my

The case of the disconnecting network shares
Hi Jeremy, No, I don't mean "deadtime". I mean auto disconnect. Specifically, the command "net config server /autodisconnect:-1" was run on each client machine. If deadtime is a server configuration item perhaps you could point me in the direction of some documentation where that is covered. The documentation for smb.conf is, to put it very mildly, incomplete. Wireshark would be impractical in this case because...

...to be streamed to the client. We haven't established yet whether these conversations are all relevant to the client or whether they are authentication requests for other clients. We are using pass-through authentication. We have noticed that despite our samba config being the default regarding autodisconnect (ie never disconnect) we see the client application disconnect after a few seconds of inactivity within the audio editor. This leads us to suspect that the application is causing the disconnect by design. Also, browsing the samba share in windows explorer causes a permanent samba connection, and...

Disconnected network drive
I have a couple of Linux directories that are being exported via Samba running under SuSE 10.0. On the Windows side, each of them is assigned a (mapped) drive letter. In the "My Computer" list they initially show up as "Disconnected Network Drive". If I attempt to access a file within one of them, the access fails with an indication that the drive does not exist. Windows XP Home Edition
I am using Samba 2.2.3a-12.3 on a Debian server. All the clients but one are XP home edition. I have a share on the server which all workstations are able to see, view, write, edit, etc. After 15 minutes of inactivity the share obtains a red X over the share icon. I am able to reactivate the share by clicking on the red x with no problems. I understand that Microsoft, in their wisdom, has a

smbfs errors
Hi Samba-Team, I have a Linux Workstation (Dual Processor Xeon, 800GByte RAID 10, Gigabit Ethernet). There is a Samba Server (2.2.0) on it and there is a mounted Share from an NT-PC (mount -t smbfs -o username=xxx, password=xxx //xxx/mount /home/mnt). In the file /var/log/messages I have the following error Messages : smb_trans2_request: result=-104, setting invalid smb_lookup: find //xxx

Home server drops connection, can't reconnect
...his problem with Windows NT, although we upgraded to 2000 and to 2.2.1a at about the same time, so it's hard to tell if that was just a coincidence. We've tried playing with timeout options (keepalive and deadtime in smb.conf, HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\ parameters\autodisconnect in Windows 2000), but it hasn't helped at all. We've had this problem for a couple of months, now, and it's extremely irritating. Has anyone else seen this problem? Does anyone have suggestions for a solution? Any idea why it might only happen with the home server? Andrew Klaassen

Fwd: Re: Disconnected homes share not really disconnected

Whether it is 1 minute or 10, it is still not re-prompting for the username/password. The autodisconnect time on my PC is set to 15 minutes. Is anyone else doing this? Can I clear the cached username/password? Ryan

Broken pipe on ls after doing mount -t smbfs
I have a problem with smbmount. I have a linux server running E-Smith (or Mitel SME server as it is now) which is basically a cut down version of RedHat 7.0 (running Kernel 2.2.19-7.0.8smp). Samba version is 2.0.10. We are connecting to an NT server (service pack 3 - I must upgrade that sometime soon). We have quite a good tapedrive and backup software (3rd party) on the E-Smith server, whereas

Slow listing of mapped drives in Explorer
We recently moved our Linux file servers from Debian Woody to Debian Etch (v4.0r3). We use the current stable Debian Samba package which is version 3.0.24. Since moving to this Samba version from 2.2.8a-0.1 we see that Windows clients are very slow to list the 5 network drives mapped by our domain login script in Explorer or "My Computer". It can take 10 seconds or so before the drives
