usermod under CentOS
My wife's PC, running CentOS 6, suddenly quit connecting to the Net. Autodidact that I am, I fumbled with all the hard- and software I could find or dared try, but did no good. So we lugged it down to our favorite shop. While there, she bought a laptop, and asked them to install CentOS and copy all her files from the PC (including two books she's written and is tryin...

VVDQ : GPS/topo-map software?
...se I can't upload the good ones from linux (FC1). I'm getting almost hard up enough to break down and run MegaScat for real on some throw-away machine kept offline. How long will it be, if I do, before I can take such a machine out and shoot it to put it out of its misery? -- Beartooth Autodidact, curmudgeonly codger learning linux Remember I know precious little of what I'm talking about!

Should we assume that you have another computer running, and that it's not having network issues? What did dmesg say, or is this all water under the bridge? <snip> > They called to a...

help with wine and TOPO!
Hello all, The subject line is a little ambitious, although that is my ultimate goal, to be able to run the National Geographic TOPO! program to look at maps of Arizona and California on my laptop using only Linux. I don't even own a copy of Windows, nor do I desire to, so hopefully Wine will be my friend. So far it isn't though. I haven't even got as far as trying to run TOPO! I

Fitting pareto distribution / plotting observed & fitted dists
...shifted to the right; IMO because of the xmin/location parameter, correct? Is it appropriate to correct for xmin like so? x2 <- x2 - xmin Am I missing anything? Do I need to be more careful at an earlier stage (e.g., breaks as this is binned data)? I apologize in advance, I am a statistical autodidact, so I might just be confusing the obvious. I'd highly appreciate your hints :) Stefan -- Institute for Information Systems and New Media Vienna University of Economics and Business Augasse 2-6, A-1090 Vienna `- http://nm.wu.ac.at/en/sobernig `- stefan.sobernig at wu.ac.a...

Problem Subsetting Rows that Have NA's
This has every appearance of being a bug. If it is not a bug, can someone tell me what I am asking for when I ask for "x[x[,2]==0,]". Thanks. > #here is the toy dataset > x <- rbind(c(1,1),c(2,2),c(3,3),c(4,0),c(5,0),c(6,NA), + c(7,NA),c(8,NA),c(9,NA),c(10,NA) + ) > x [,1] [,2] [1,] 1 1 [2,] 2 2 [3,] 3 3 [4,] 4 0 [5,] 5 0

General help - online statistics courses?
I understand this isn't a r specific question. I'm switching departments to work with the analytics team at my company as a "service" side manager to better incorporate the analytics process into product design / production. We're an online gaming company. As I'm going through tools like R, rapidminer, tableau, I was also thinking that I should get some formal training

SELinux - way of the future or good idea but !!!
Hi, total newbie on CentOS. Just firing up an install of 5.5 on a development webserver. Installed Webmin, Awstats, PHPMyAdmin and Drupal successfully. Yet to work on Sendmail and Samba. SELinux in enforcing mode, reporting "SELinux preventing ifconfig (ifconfig_t) "read write" to /var/webminsessiondb.pag (var_t)". Googled the error message without real success in finding fix
