Dropping 'empty' panels from lattice
...at$c8*dat$c9*dat$c10,nint=21,layout=c(32,8),data=dat,type="count")
<-dev.off()
This works (compliments to R developers!) but it does generate a large
plot with many panels being 'empty', e.g. that combination of factors
c1..c10 never occurs in this data set.
Is there a way to autmatically drop those empty panels?
I looked at the docs: there is a drop.unused.levels parameter for trellis
graphs but the docs says it is default true. I checked but could not make
much sense out of the list of possibilties.
Thanks!

RJS replaces JavaScript?
Hi All,
I am currently devleoping a Rails application and I need to do following as
part of client side operations,
1. HTML Form validations
2. AJAX
I am currently calling Javascript methods from views of my application; I
heard about RJS(Remote Javascripts) templates; are the replacing Javascript
altogether? can I use RJS for HTML Form validations and AJAX?
What I believe is that with RJS

Metaphone analysis
Not sure how much this will interest people but I don''t have a blog so I''m
posting something I threw together today cause I think it might be useful.
In what little free time I have I''ve been wanting to put together a
Rails/Ferret based restful dictionary. So I finally got a chance to get
started today so the first thing I wanted to do was implement a metaphone

busydetect=yes, busycount=5: hangup automtically without reason, why?
Hi All;
Why busydetect=yes caused this autmatic hangup happens
without any reson (while responding to entering the
digits in the IVR) I do not know! And what is the
solution I do not know.
I used busydetect=yes and busycount=5 in zapata.conf
to help me in hangup when detect the busy tone, but I
faced the following problem:
While I am calling to the Asterisk PBX, and during the

Mistype in CRAN mirror list(doc/CRAN_mirrors.csv) (PR#7759)

Submission from: (NULL) (130.158.158.65)
In the list of CRAN mirrors($R_HOME/doc/CRAN_mirrors.csv), I found a mistyping.
Mirror in University of Tsukuba is described as "Tsukaba", not "Tsukuba".
I know "Tsukuba" is correct, because I'm webmaster of this mirror :-)

You posted to R-announce;
R-announce autmatically ``forks'' to R-help,

For some spammer protection, I have "R-announce" only accepting postings

R-help or R-announce in order to post to R-announce.
Now I see that you belong to R-help (even to R-devel)...

Problems installing/updating packages in Linux
Hi all,
I feel very comfortable with R in Windows, and am trying to switch over to
Linux. I have R 2.8.1 on Linux and it works great (so far), except for
instalilng/updating packages. For example, using Emacs with ESS as a text
editor, I entered:
> update.packages()
Here are some error messages:
/usr/lib/R/bin/INSTALL: 1088: cannot create
/usr/share/R/doc/html/search/index.txt: Permission

Samba PDC/LDAP not mapping "logon drive"
...of live without roaming profiles but the failure to
map the logon drive automagically isn't acceptable.
Could somebody please help me??
I have the logon stuff setup as:
logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U
logon drive = E:
logon home = \\%L\%U
Which I think should map \\SERVER\USERNAME as drive E:
autmatically whenever they log in (substituting the proper
values for SERVER and USERNAME of course.)
It doesn't work. The profile doesn't seem to roam either as
I expect it would with logon path. The path exists and I have
enabled the thingy in gpedit.msc which is required for WinXP
machines. But this...

Multidimensional scaling and distance matrices
Dear All,
I am in the somewhat unfortunate position of having to reproduce the
results previously obtained from (non-metric?) MDS on a "kinship" matrix
using Statistica. A kinship matrix measures affinity between groups, and
has its maximum values on the diagonal.
Apparently, starting with a nxn kinship matrix, all it was needed to do
was to feed it to Statistica flagging that the

Assigning objects to variable and variable to list in a for loop
Hello,
I want to use a for loop for repeadely calculating
a maxent model (package dismo, function maxent()) which
creates an object of the class maxent (S4).
I want to collect all the resulting object in a list.
I tried to simplify my for loop to explain what I want.
There are two problems/questions:
1) How can I create the new variables in the loop (using paste) and assign the objects
2) How

[PATCH] drm/nouveau: Intercept ACPI_VIDEO_NOTIFY_PROBE
Various notebooks with nvidia GPUs generate an ACPI_VIDEO_NOTIFY_PROBE
acpi-video event when an external device gets plugged in (and again on
modesets on that connector), the default behavior in the acpi-video
driver for this is to send a KEY_SWITCHVIDEOMODE evdev event, which
causes e.g. gnome-settings-daemon to ask us to rescan the connectors
(good), but also causes g-s-d to switch to mirror

Speed problem
Mermgfurt !
I have some problem with syncing two machines which are connected
over a Gigabit-connection. I'm trying to use rsync with ssh because of
the authorisation mechanisms (keys). It starts quite ok with 18 MB/s
(this small speed may have something to do with our internal net)
and falls down to 400 KB/s (!!!). This happens over a long period
because those files I want to copy are very
