I'm being told that when winbindd is used to connect a Linux client to an NT PDC, that encrypted passwords cannot be used in transport. In other words that passwords are sent over the wire in clear text. I find this surprising. Nor can i find documentation of this assertion anywhere. Can anyone definitively say this is true or false? Hi, When Samba is running as a PDC and a workstation is joined to the Domain, should the user logged into the workstation be able to see all the groups they are a member of using `ifmember /list`? Is the below output as expected? I'm I correct thinking that as all my groups originate in the Unix world, I don't need winbind to allow the Workstations to see them? For what

Hi, I tried searching openssh docs and the archives but could not get much info on this problem i am facing with openssh. When i run the sshd on the remote machine(OpenSSH_2.9p1) in debug mode and try to login from local host(OpenSSH_2.3.0), I get into the remote host with public key authnetication.But if i run sshd without debug mode, I am prompted for passwrod authentication and eventhough i give the correct password I am refused connection. Pls can someone tell me if i am missing something... Thanks for any help, Deepa.

Hi all. Im new to this list and Im planing to set up a samba system for a big organisation with 300+ users. I have to setup file servers on 6 departments and I have 7 servers. My plan is to do just the authnetication form one server and serve disk from other 6 servers which are belong to thire own deparments. I think I have to use "password server =" option on deparment servers , and configure one machine to serve authentication. what my problems are, [1] How do I setup the main auth server.......
