Rc1 Linux Crash
I'm trying to use authentcation on a mount on the 2.3RC1 and each time it has to open the auth file it crashes.
This is the debug. There is no file named kwscan so I guess it's a error in creating it. icecast crashes when I try to add users or try to load the mount in winamp.

Openssh + AFS
...nts.
When the ticket is accepted but not sufficient to open up the home dir,
the user must be forced out in the behind.
I would like to propose an initial credential exchange phase. The client
might send ticket, x509-creds, afs-tokens or whatever. This should not
authenticate the user, but help in authentcation with other methods.
If activation of these credentials allows access to the AFS home dir,
standard ssh-key authentication can be done. So a double
authentication is enforced: the credentials must be sufficient for AFS
and an ssh-key (from within protected AFS space) authentication has to be
success...

newbie on winbind.. help required.
I would like to know what exactly does winbind do.?
(i have read the documentation but i am yet confused)
prior to having winbind incorporated in samba, there was smb, nmb doing
the
authentication using samba server on linux.
so samba acted as file and print server + authentcation server for
windows clients
including the NT server.
NT Server -----> Linux Server (Samba)
mswinclient1 mswinclient2 mswinclient3 etc.
so if we look at the above rough picture....
my all 3 mswinclients can do sharing to NT server as well as Linux
having samba.
the ntserver can also do shari...

win7 domain pc to standalone samba server
I'm trying to map a network drive using my workplace's Win7 laptop to a fileserver at home. The Win7 laptop is joined to the work domain. The fileserver is my own standalone fileserver, not joined to any domain, and is configured to be accessible to everyone without authentcation.
I'm not able to get this to work, with varying error messages from Windows ("The account is not authorized to login from this station", etc). This message made me look into client/server signing settings. But when I tried to enable signing, I'm not even able to map the share...

Samba Auth: NETLOGON vs. lsarpc
All,
So, I have a OS X Server 10.3.9 box running Samba 3.0.10. File
sharing is fast and cannot as for much more in the department.
Only slow thing: authentication. We are using the OS X box as the
PDC, and running authentication of all workstations against the PDC.
This works good, but takes 15-30 seconds to take place, which is not
great.
I did a debug level 3 of the samba file

With all the constraints and processing, I'll offer yet another option:
use the checkpassword password authentication scheme. This will bypass
post-authentcation log-sniffing and allow you direct access to username,
password and client IP (the last I'm not positive about) at authentication
time.
Now you'll have everything you need to do any wild and crazy auth
processing, including database searches and triggering firewall blocking
based on whateve...
