using web service for authenitcation
I am writting a web service for authenitcation of users and was using web_service_scaffold :invoke for testing it out...and was able to consume it using .NET. But my question is, whats the simplest method using which i can use the same web service in the current Web App. I mean, not from an external application or something but from the current web apps itself. I found one method in AWDR, and

WinY2k Access Denied on Printing
I have a Red Hat Linux release 7.1 (Seawolf) Samba 2.2.4 PDC and fileserver built with --with-ldapsam. The clients are either win9x or WinY2k. Authenitcation, etc... all works great. But print sharing is a real pain. Under 2.2.1a printing worked great, but our VOIP phone system wouldn't joint the domain until we upgraded to 2.2.4. Initial testing of 2.2.4 made it seem like everything

Forcing PTY usage.
I have been studing the OpenSSH code, and am looking to use it in an envriornment with untrusted local users. I have some patches to this effect, which I will post to the list in due course. In any case, I would like all users who sucessfully authenitcate to leave their mark in the system logs, in particular utmp and wtmp. As these logs mean didily-squat without unique terminal names (and

Sync'ing Samba LDAP with MySQL?
Hey all. I started asking about this about a week ago, then got so sick I could hardly get out of bed. Now that I' m basically recovered(and no, it wasn't Covid, thank goodness), I want to pick up where left off. I'm about to provision the samba domain for my test setup. As long as that works, the next step is to ensure that information in Samba's LDAP database is properly

How to Vary Module Path Based on User
I want to vary the path rsync uses based on the user that authenitcated to the module. I can see doing this in one of two ways: 1) Append the username that was used for the connection to the path string of the module on the fly. What was /path/to/dir is now /path/to/dir/username 2) Append the username into the dest_path that was sent from the other side. The eff...

Why winbind on a Samba Server?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Is there any good reason to run Winbind on an Samba LDAP PDC? I've never used winbind before and I'm wondering if there is a reason I should consider learning. I suppose one would be better server debugging. samba and vista workstation logins
Helli All, I am trying to get our Samba "homes" file server to work with Vista workstation logins. The following is what I am getting ONLY on Vista workstations in the samba.log. ( XP & 2000 machines do not get this.) I did add the [profiles.V2} copy = profiles Hoping this might be the fix. Still no joy. I can paste my smb.conf if any thinks it would help. Bottom line is my smb.conf

Replacing WinNT 4 PDC with Samba PDC
Hi All! Thanks to all of you that responded to my previous posts. I've gotten a lot more info now than I used to have! But I still have questions. The biggest right now is: Is there a way build up a Samba PDC as a direct replacement for an existing Windows NT 4.0 PDC? All the material I've found to date is written from a standpoint of creating a new domain as you create the Samba

...rg/pipermail/samba/ I have created accounts for samba for people on my domain who authenticate to an winnt PDC my question is, if they authenticate to the domain and the log show that the password is ok, do they have to have a matching password in the smbpasswd file? To put it simply, if they are authenitcated to the domain, do I still have to enter them into the smbpasswd file aswell?
