pam and sasl2-sample-server failure
I'm setting up a postfix server using "The Book of Postfix". In ch 15 there is a section on testing saslauthd which I can't get to work. I can get it to work using shadow password authentication, but it fails on pam. I don't kow squat about troubleshooting pam. Any PAM wizzes out there that can help? I saw a unrelated post talking about something needing to be in the pam

passing remote ip to pam
to improve forensic log info i want to set the PAM_RHOST value to the remote ip (which pam logs as rhost=foo in failure messages). i didn't look to see if anything has been done in this way on CVS because i'm still on 0.99.10.6. below is a bit of a hack. in some sense the remote_ip might make more sense in the AUTH_LOGIN_REQUEST_NEW packet rather than the continue packet... but that

Need help on checkpassword userdb/passdb
I'm experimenting with checkpassword as an auth method for usedb and passdb (http://wiki2.dovecot.org/AuthDatabase/CheckPassword). I've set up the userdb and passdb *exactly* as the wiki suggests as the "standard way": passdb { driver = checkpassword args = /user/util/bin/checkpassword } userdb { driver = prefetch } I've created a checkpassword program that does

Seems this 2.2.24 is the last win10 compatible version (as my testserver doesn't have win10 users and thunderbird works well), any never version gives an error. However I didn't find any hint from http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot-news/2016-July/000324.html etc. --

Need help on checkpassword userdb/passdb
Not to be grumpy, but I've posted a dozen or more message to this list in the past week about what I think might be relatively common/easy issues and have had zero response except from Rick Romero who is trying, but hasn't actually done what I need himself. I'm sure someone has. Perhaps these problem are too mundane compared to CalDAV, sieve filtering and IPA to excite List interest?

crash when trying to upgrade from 2.0.x to 2.3.x
Hello, I'm trying to migrate dovecot mail database from 2.0.9 on Linux to 2.3.20 on FreeBSD. I've rsync'd the entire database, grabbed all the configs, changed the paths and permission, but when trying to access the mail from Thunderbird I have reproducible crash in the logs: ===Cut=== Feb 14 17:12:10 it-r-support dovecot[5888]: auth-worker(6378): Debug: mysql(localhost):

PATCH: make local IP address available to auth modules
The attached patch makes the local IP address to which the client connected available to the authentication modules; i.e., the local IP address is available for substitution as %i for the mysql and pgsql modules. We needed this feature to support thousands of our legacy accounts which are authenticated by username/local_part (not the full email address) and IP address (one per domain). Timo,
