Samba, Winbind and AD. Nearly there but not quite
Hi, Just compiled latest version of samba and trying to get Samba to work with AD. I am at the point where I wbinfo -t, wbinfo -u, wbinfo -g and wbinfo -ausername%password work, but I cannot get getent passwd and getent group to gather any AD info. I have noticed the following errors in /var/log/samba/smbd.log [2006/03/09 16:37:16, 1] nsswitch/winbindd_ads.c:enum_dom_groups(282) No rid for Users !? To get all the users shown, you need 'winbind enum users = yes', but it isn't required and, as you have found out, it just slows things down. Rowland

null session and winbindd questions
...amba server on the W2k box by selecting the account group to be "Pre-Windows 2000 Compatible Access". For some reason this did not work. Does anyone know why this didn't work? Another way around this is to have winbindd send a legitimate username and password by running 'wbinfo -Ausername%password'. This method raises some questions. First, does winbindd send the username and password encrypted. Second do you have to run 'wbinfo -A..' every time you restart winbindd or is it sufficient to run it only once? Thanks for the information. -Ben

string_to_sid: SI is not in a valid format
Rowland, Sorry for the personal reply: my email default is set to reply to the sender only. Removing all the lines from smb.conf you suggested didn't resolve the issue, still getting the same messages in the log. I'll have to put back: winbind enum users = yes winbind enum groups = yes because without these lines commands: getent passwd getent group return only local passwd and group

Samba group duplicated

If you have those lines in smb.conf, then ALL they do is make 'getent passwd' or 'getent group' show all users and groups AND slow things down. They are not needed, 'getent passwd ausername' will show the info for the user and everything else will just work. > This is after update default config > > [netlogon] >         path = /var/lib/samba/sysvol/i.mp.pl/scripts >         read only = No > [sysvol] >         path = /var/lib/samba/sysvol >        ...

wibind and windows 2003
I am wondering if winbind works with win 2003. I can get winbind working just fine with 2k servers, but when I run wbinfo -t, all I get is "can not check secret". it joined the domain fine, but can not get it any info using wbinfo. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Some rough edges with Samba-3.0.0beta1
...k pdbedit -i tdbsam -e ldapsam -g does not export builtin groups to LDAP. Shall I create them by hand? Which objectclass shall I use? pdbedit -L -g does not list *any* group pdbedit -L -g -b tdbsam does list builtin groups. wbinfo -u times out, unable to return anything ( We did not supply -Ausername%password.... is that needed? in that case which user? privileges? ) We are attempting to use NUA. Can switch to POSIX users/groups in LDAP if necessary. Please, ask for any additional information needed. I will be glad to provide it and help test/debug this thing. Thanks in advance. Regards...
