Log viewing and analysis tools
...quirement to allow our security officer to regularly view and
analyze the logging and auditing results of one of the machines in our
lab. He comes from the Microsoft Windows world and is not a *nix
trained person.
I know I can configure logwatch. I can also create a script containing
various 'aureport' runs into a cron job.
Any recommendations for a GUI-based tool that would be easy for him to
learn?

ProFTPD SFTP with SELinux
Has anyone attempted to make SFTP on ProFTPD with SELinux work? I'd
like to keep SELinux enabled on this particular system, but I prefer
ProFTPD's SFTP solution over OpenSSH. The aureport tool reports the
following:
28. 11/05/2014 12:58:58 proftpd
unconfined_u:system_r:ftpd_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023 4 file getattr
system_u:object_r:sshd_key_t:s0 denied 86877
I have the SFTP config setup to just use the OpenSSH host keys, and it
appears to be getting denied read access to it. Thoughts?

Installation and Setup of Samba4 AD DC on CentOS6
...With
SELinux in permissive mode it's allowing Samba4 to run but recording all
the things it doesn't like in the audit.log file. To examine this log I
installed the policycoreutils-python tools package and its dependencies:
# yum install policycoreutils-python
To get a list of events run
# aureport -a
and for more detailed messages
# ausearch -m avc
Piping the messages through audit2allow generates a list of rules that
would allow the actions. The initial results seemed a bit overwhelming.
To produce something more reasonable I decided to utilise the file
contexts defined in the Samba3 poli...
