Update from 6.6 to 6.7 > automount logs error message
Hello,
after an update from 6.6 to 6.7 the following error message is logged to
/var/log/messages when I login (per ssh):
Aug 11 16:31:21 a1234 automount[1598]: set_tsd_user_vars: failed to get passwd
info from getpwuid_r
Checked all log-files of my systems running 6.6 with same configuration -- never
got such a message (We use NFS/autofs for home-directories, NIS and tcsh (login
shell)).

WindowsPE 10.0 -- Samba 4.4.5 connection problem
Hello,
we use WindowsPE and a Samba-Share to install Windows. First WindowsPE is booted
and then a network drive with Windows-install-files is mapped.
This worked fine with WindowsPE 5.0. But with WindowsPE 10.0 it fails.
The error is:
net use \\PC\test
System error 58 has occurred.
The specified server cannot perform the requested operation.
I used a simple Samba-Config for testing and get

WindowsPE 10.0 -- Samba 4.4.5 connection problem
Hello Rowland,

Not really. Our Samba-production environment uses accounts. I just want to keep
the test Samba-cfg simple. (Even with Your change I can't connect. Same error).

Problem joining to a Samba PDC (Probably caused by "unix charset")
Hello,
trying to join a Windows 7 64-Bit PC to a Samba PDC (3.6.5) fails with message
"Domain not found or no connection possible". After some testing I found that
the problem was caused by the Samba-parameter "unix charset = ISO8859-1".
When I start the nmbd with same config-file just without the "unix charset" the
PC can join the domain (smbd runs with org.

Moving a Samba PDC from Solaris 2.8 to CentOS 4.4
Hello,
I try to move a Samba-PDC (3.0.24) from Solaris 2.8 to CentOS 4.4 with the
guidance from:
http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/upgrades.html#id333969
(Replacing a Domain Controller)
At the moment I am trying this in a test environment. This means the
following (not the real names/IPs. Just for illustration ;-)):
smb.conf entries:

Update to Centos 7.7 / Arch ppc64le / Problem with nvidia driver
Hello,
today I updated a CentOS 7.6 ppc64le machine to CentOS 7.7. After reboot to the
new kernel (4.18.0-80.7.2.el7.ppc64le) dkms could not build the nvidia-module.
Error-message from dkms:

Problems with offline files on Windows2000 and samba-2.2.8a
Hallo,
we have problems with offline files on Windows2000/SP3 (also with XP/SP1) and
samba-2.2.8a.
It works well on shares like eg. [home]. But we have a share which is
used by several different users to share their work. The smb-configuration for
the share is like this:
....
[work]
writable = yes
force create mode = 774
force directory mode = 774
force group = workers

Question about Solaris ZFS and ACLs
Hello,
if I am right Samba 3.0.23d didn't support ACLs on Suns new filesystem ZFS.
Will it be supported in the next Samba version 3.0.24?
I found a discussion on "samba-technical" witch says that in the subversion
tree support for ACLs on ZFS is available.
But my tests on Solaris 10 X86 failed. I tried

Move a Samba PDC from Solaris to Linux
Hello,
we want to move our Samba PDC controller from a Solaris (2.8) machine to
a Linux (CentOS4.4) machine.
We have the following plan (on both servers is Samba installed. We use
the passdb-backend smbpasswd):
1) Stop Samba on the Solaris machine
2) Copy all machine accounts from Solaris /etc/passwd to Linux /etc/passwd
3) Copy the following files from Solaris to Linux:
samba/private/*

Hello,
when I try to connect from Client-1 (Windows 2003 Server with AD-Server)
to a share on Samba-Server-1 (security = server, password server =
