Analyzing dissimilarity ratings with Multidimensional Scaling
Dear R-list members,
I need an help with the Multidimensional Scaling analysis (MDS).
So far I used the cmdscale() command in R, but I did not get the perceptual
map I would love to see,
and I would like to know if it is possible to get it using R, and if yes
how.
I also had a look to the functions isoMDS() and sammoc() but with no luck.
I summarize the experiment I performed, and I would ask you

A concrete type I/III Sum of square problem
Hi R-help members,
I have read a lot in the Archive about the "Type I" vs "Type III" sum
of square. I think I have read confusing post so
I want to have a clear idea of the problem.
Here is an example.
I have 3 groups of subjects of unequal sample size (G1 (n=7), G2
(n=7), G3 (n=4)).
for Each subject I have 4 measures corresponding to the crossing of
2 factor (A & B)

Linear mixed effects models
Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie to R and to linear mixed effects modeling, so please have mercy
:-)
Just wanted to check, whether what I'm doing is alright.
I've collected data concerning tonotopic organization of the auditory cortex
in humans, and I have approximately 1400-1800 data/time points per person
(13 in total). Observations were made how the focus of neuronal activity

Golly, anyone who read Plato's Dialogues would realize that the Socratic
method involves patiently leading the questioner stepwise through the
solution, not simply writing RTFMeno.

Set ringtone by dialed number
Would it be possible to set the ringtone based on the number that was dialed?
Example of what the goal is:
Dial Denver number
Incoming calls ring with ringtone 1
Dial main number
Incoming calls ring with ringtone 2
We are currently using Digium D40, D50, D70 phones.

Embedding Audio Files in Interactive Graphs
Hi R-ers,
I'm wondering if anyone has investigated a method for embedding audio
files in R graphs (pdf format), and allowing their playback to be
triggered interactively (by clicking on a graph element for instance).
I know how to do this in latex pdfs with the multimedia package, but
it seems that R would provide a more appropriate platform for many
reasons.
Thanks for any help you

advantage of OPUS_SET_FORCE_CHANNELS(1)?
I'm using Opus for a networked ham radio communications receiver. Kudos
on the whole project; it sounds excellent even at low bit rates and the
API was surprisingly simple and easy to use. And god knows the world
needs a really good, general purpose, non-proprietary codec.
One question, though. Depending on the mode my receiver can generate
mono or stereo. Most operating modes are mono, but a

Revolutions blog: August 2017 roundup
Since 2008, Microsoft (formerly Revolution Analytics) staff and guests
have written about R every weekday at the Revolutions blog

of articles from the previous month of particular interest to readers
of r-help.
In case you missed them, here are some articles related to R from the

References for the BARK/MEL stuff
Could someone point me to the BARK/MEL tables that these macros (from vorbis/scales.h) are trying to approximate?

Wish: a way to track progress of parallel operations
Hello,
thanks for bringing this topic up, and it would be excellent if we
could come of with a generic solution for this in base R. It is one
of the top frequently asked questions and requested features in
parallel processing, but also in sequential processing. We have also
seen lots of variants on how to attack the problem of reporting on
progress when running in parallel.

Need advises on mixed-effect model ( a concrete example)
Dear R-help members,
I'm trying to run LME model on some behavioral data and need
confirmations about what I'm doing...
Here's the story...
I have some behavioral reaction time (RT) data (participants have to
detect dome kind of auditory stimuli). the dependant variable is RT
measured in milliseconds. 61 participants were tested separated in 4 age
groups (unblanced groups,

Wish: a way to track progress of parallel operations
Hello R-devel,
A function to be run inside lapply() or one of its friends is trivial
to augment with side effects to show a progress bar. When the code is
intended to be run on a 'parallel' cluster, it generally cannot rely on
its own side effects to report progress.
I've found three approaches to progress bars for parallel processes on
CRAN:

5.1 surround channel coupling
>Yesterday I have finished writing the ambisonic pan filter for oggenc.
May I ask what this "pan filter" is?
I made some tentative suggestions for coupling Ambisonic B-format in a post
"Vorbis Ambisonic coupling" on 4feb07
I gather from the last monthly meeting, that some of you, including Monty, had problems with the phase behaviour of B-format.
Would anyone like a

Samba 3: bad read performance
??Hi all!
We use Samba 3 server for some video stuff (editing, rendering, and so
on) -- that's why performance is critical. We've tried a lot smb.conf
options, but Samba can't satisfy our requirements.
Our server configuration is as following:
* Hard drive: RAID5 (8 x Seagate 7200.10), 3ware 9550SX-8LP controller
* NICs (trunked): 2 x Broadcom NetXtreme BCM5704
* Processor: Opteron
