console sound
...e Labs "Soundblaster PCI 128-Voice" soundcard ($13). This card is on the "approved" RedHat list. However, the documentation inside the package says "VIBRA 128". Anyhow, kudzu doesn't see then card. The soundcard detection program says "Ensoniq, ES1371 (AudioPCI-97), module es1371", which seems normal. However, there is no sound. Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks, Mike

The Hercules Game Theatre XP, the M-Audio Delta Theatre ($$$), etc. I have a 4 year old 4 channel sound card ( Ensoniq AudioPCI , 20 USD ). Almost all newer cards support 5.1 output, like the SB Live! 5.1 series. That is 6 analog outputs. A Live! Player 5.1 is 40 USD here at my place. > Most people don't have them. KMIDI problem
...esktop, but have installed KDE too so I can run kde apps. Kmidi is the default midi player, so if I click on a midi file in firefox it brings up KMIDI. KMIDI goes merrily along playing the file, but I get NO SOUND. My motherboard has built in audio but it's disabled and I"m using an old Audiopci 128 card which seems to work fine for everything else. (Why? because it sounds MUCH better than the ac97 junk) Clues for making midi work? Thanks! -- ---- Fred Smith -- fredex at fcshome.stoneham.ma.us ------------------------ ---- Do you not know? Multichannel files
Hi, As I´ve understood things, the Ogg Vorbis format supports more that two channels (stereo). Is there any tools to encode x sourcefiles into one .ogg file? I am a musican and am thrilled with the ide of makeing music in surround (or in more than stereo). This leads to my next question: is there (developing) any decoders for multichannel oggs to, let us say, 4.1 or 5.1 surround? Wouldn´t it

Red Hat patch kills streaming
...then it played sound no problem. Played some MP3s to test. So I did another quick re-install to see if I was crazy and without patching the kernel, icecast, lame and MuSE fired right up. No problem. Came out of the blackout streaming. I am using the es1371 module for sound, or the Creative Ensoniq AudioPCI 1371 card. The box is an AMD Athlon 1800 with 512 megs of RAM. Pretty generic. Has anyone else seen this? Would this justify a bug report to the Red Hat guys or could it be icecast? Thanks. can't get oss console working.
...he current version of alsa unless you add #define ALSA_PCM_OLD_HW_PARAMS_API #define ALSA_PCM_OLD_SW_PARAMS_API to the top of chan_alsa.c. Even then, though, it doesn't work right. Playing sound works, but recording doesn't work at all. You just get nothing. I also tried an Ensoniq ES1371 AudioPCI sound card. With alsa drivers, it behaves just like the VT82C686. With oss drivers, it mostly works, except the sound level of things recorded with the mic is way way too low, no matter how I adjust the mixer. So, any suggestions? Does anyone have a working console with asterisk, and if so, wha...

A working SIP Phone for Centos44?
I tried numerous but most of them just don't work. They fail on the quality of the microphone. I tried two that support alsa. Kphone does, but dtmf (the numbers) are not recognized by Asterisk :-( I tried X-lite, but that has really terrible voice quality (mic). I tried Sflphone (has alsa support) and that worked on FC4 (not on FC3) and it does not work on Centos44 either: [root at raaf

liblame vs libmp3lame.... anyways, it don't work.
I took the latest installation of lame (both stable and beta) and installed those with the default install variables. The last one I compiled was lame3.87. I then have the ices-0.0.1.beta5 and config'd the sources with ./configure --with-perl --with-lame and installed. Yet, when I run ices -R, it complains with the following line when I run the -R option: Support for reencoding with

Frequent reboots...
Hello, I am having a problem with a new server running FreeBSD 4.9-PRERELEASE. Once every two days or so, it reboots itself.. there is no exact time of the day it reboots.. It rebooted itself at 4:25 PM EDT on 9/25, and 3:05 AM EDT on 9/29 (today). I thought it's the bad memory or some sort, so I've been running memtest today and memtest reports no sign of trouble with the memory...
