Currency return calculations
Dear sir, I am extremely sorry for messing up the logic
asking for help w.r.t. my earlier mails
I have tried to explain below what I am looking for.
I have a database (say, currency_rates) storing datewise
currency exchange rates with some base currency XYZ.
currency_rates <- data.frame(date =
c("12/31/2010", "12/30/2010", "12/29/2010",

Merging two data objects question
I have two R objects, allDataSubset1 and allDataSubset2 and the str of
both of them is shown below ( I don't show all 18 lists for
space purposes ). The difference between them is that the times ( and
possibly the days ) and the data is different and what I want to do is
merge them so that only the data in Subset2 that is the same day and
times as Subset 1 remains in the merged dataset.

Odp: Currency return calculations
My mistake sir. I was literally engrossed in my stupid logic, and while doing so, overlooked the simple and very effective solution you had offered. Sorry once again sir and will certainly try to be very careful in future.
Thanks again and have a great weekend sir.

fax possibilities
I am trying to set up a linux based faxing solution for a client, and
have found that the modem they have (ancient dataplex external unit)
just isn't up to the job. It talks to some remote fax machines but not
others.
A new external modem ranges from AUD$75 to AUD$400, which got me
thinking of other possibilities...
#1 FXO PCI card (more expensive for 1 port, probably cheaper for 2+)

I made some progress on my previous "systemfit" question but still not quite there
Surprisingly, I played around with some test code and below actually
creates equations that look correct.
tempmat<-matrix(10,nrow=6,ncol=6)
restrictmat<-diag(6)
colnames(tempmat)<-c("AUD.l1","CHF.l1","CAD.l1","GBP.l1","EUR.l1","JPY.l

Sipura line 1 outgoing voice problem?
Back in January I started having a problem with my Sipura (and there was
at least one other on the list with the same problem) that if I answer
an incoming call (via X100P) on line 1 of my Sipura, the caller cannot
hear any voice from the internal extension. If the internal user puts
the external user on hold (via flash hook) and returns, both directions
of audio are fine.
Line 2 never has

Rails PayPal and Currencies other than USD
Has anyone been able to make direct API calls to PayPal in currencies
other than USD? I get an error message "The currency code submitted is
not supported. Check the currency code and try again."
I''m using the PayPal plugin for Rails. I can successfully transact in
USD, but not AUD (Australian Dollars).
Cheers,

Memory leak during instantiation of a reference class?
Hi,
I have a problem with a large data set wrapped in a reference class. I do that to access the data by reference from within various functions in a script.

multivariate xts merge question
Hi,
I have an xts starting with a number of columns (currency pairs see below),
then I add new ones which are derived from existing ones (like adding the
moving average of a column) by merging the new columns one by one. These
get the name of the column they are calculated from concatenated with ".1".
All done by merge.xts, easy.
Now, I have a function (procState below) which generates

plot(all.effects)
Dear r-helpers,
plot(all.effects()) uses trellis for its output, and often produces
several effect plots in a layout. Can anyone tell me how to set the
arguments to plot.effect which default to
row=1, col=1, nrow=1, ncol=1, more=FALSE
so that I can plot multiple effect plots on one layout?
I was hoping that a call like
last <- rep(c(TRUE, FALSE), c(3, 1))
lay <-matrix(c(1:4,), 2, 2,

Problem faxing with SPA2100 in passthru mode.
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to send a FAX with the following configuration:
Analog FAX machine (OKI) <----->SPA21000<----->LAN<----->Asterisk<--------> PSTN
I'm restricted to use passthru mode for faxing, instead of T.38
protocol, because the Asterisk box is running v1.2 and cannot be
changed as it is in a heavy production environment. Anyway, it

What if a webservice is not available = "execution expired" error
Hi,
I''m using a webservice in my application. How can I make it so that my
application will only try to connect to the webservice for a certain
period of time and then give up?
Right now my code is using a begin-rescue-else but sometimes I get a
"execution expired" error if the webservice is not available or takes
too long to respond.
Thanks,
Peter

Question about AGNES by Rousseeuw et al. in the package "cluster": How many clusters?
...In SPSS, an Agglomeration Schedule table is produced and I used to
look at the biggest jump between the error coefficients for each
agglomerative steps in order to find where to stop clustering. But with
the Agnes output I don't know what I should be looking at.
Thanks so much for your help,

Portable OpenSSH needs a new server
Hi,
The server that hosts Portable OpenSSH's bugzilla, anoncvs and mailing
lists is reaching the end of its life and is in need of replacement.
Anyone who uses our bugzilla frequently can attest to how annoyingly
slow it is.
So I am soliciting donations towards a replacement server with a target
of AUD$3750. If there are any leftover funds they will be used to defray
colo costs that I

Group Permission Conflicts
We are running samba 3.0.7 on a Solaris 9 server. This is our
company's main file server (migrated over from Windows). We are
having issues with properly applying file permissions to different
groups.
Right now, we have about 400 users. They are all members of the
"other" group at the OS level. Beyond that, all the users are divided
into groups based on their department so that
