Well, yes, I've set Atril, which is installed by default, to be the
default app now. Thanks :-)
I'm still using acroread on CentOS6 (other computers than this C7 one)
and never had a single problem.

Acroread9 crash in CentOS7
Hello,
I'm getting a crash with acroread on my CentOS7 (AdobeReader_enu-9.5.5-1.i486).
I install the official rpms from ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/,
tried 9.5.5, and former v9, v8, v7.
/usr/bin/acroread loads well, but when you click a menu, bang. Same if
you start acroread w/ a .pdf filename in parameter, the window opens up
then crashes.
I modified the acroread script to

pdftotext latest version for CentOS 7
...o suggest that the latest version is 4.02 which seems a gigantic leap ahead.
Since I have a Chinese text PDF which I am unable to extract any text from using pdftotext, instead I end up with a collection of garbage Latin characters, I am curious how to get a later version? Copying and pasting from Atril 1.16.1 (seems to be part of the Mate desktop I am running) also makes me end up with garbage... Not surprising since it also seems to use pdftotext 0.26.5...
Any suggestions? Later version of pdftotext? If so, wherefrom? Another PDF-viewer?

What happens if he sets up a new user? Does the desktop work then?

We have some small networks with connectivity to the Internet
through firewall routers.? The smallest has one Windows 7
system and three Linux systems including both CentOS 6 and
CentOS 7 machines.? The Windows 7 systems have full Adobe
packages that are updated regularly and are trouble free.
On the Linux systems, evince has been our go to product for
viewing and printing .pdf documents.? This

Support for AdobeReader on Linux ended more than 4 years ago. It would
be better to use evince, atril or okular.

Three suggestions:
1. Have you tried atril? Does it have the same problem?
2. Can you post a sample pdf somewhere so folks who might know how to fix it can see an example?
3. I posted a bug report along with a sample pdf some years back to the evince bug tracker (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/) and the problem pdf rendered perfectly when t...
