Hi. I love R. I have had two compatibility issues in shifting my code over from Splus cts, rts, its: are there any plans to incorporate these classes? regexpr: R does not seem to have any regular expression matching function, although that capability seems like it would be fairly simple to add for someone who knew what they were doing, since the internal code is already there and someone would

Those are S-PLUS proprietary extensio...

Modifying the design matrix X in GAMS to suit data assimilation
I have a data assimilation problem that might be amenable to the use of GAMS, but I am not sure how feasible it is to implement. I was told the R mailing list was a great resource. My observations are spatiotemporal salinity in the San Francisco Bay at a number of instruments over a few days. The thing that I want to fit is the initial condition for a salt transport model at the beginning of this

Enforcing inequality bounds and heteroscedasticity in a GAM or GLM
I have a spatial salinity field s and a model g(s) ~ Xb where the X comes from slightly modified GAM basis functions. I am trying to deal with the following set of requirements: 1. The underlying physics are linear, and plain salinity (the identity link) is the correct response to my covariates. 2. Dispersion (variance or sd) is almost certainly proportional to the mean. 3. The data s(x,y)

Principal component / EOF analysis of data dominated by a couple frequencies
Hi R folk, I have a time series of scalar downstream velocity data measured across a tidal channel. The variables are the locations in bins across the channel, the samples are over time. The fluctuation over the tide cycle is an enormous fraction of the time variation in the data ... 96%. The spectral energy of the tide is concentrated in a couple bands that make up the major constituents of the
