best practices in using shared storage for XEN Virtual Machines and auto-failover?
...mU's to auto failover between
the 2 servers if either goes down (hardware failure / overload /
kernel updates / etc).
What is the best way to connect a NAS / SAN to these 2 servers for
this kind of setup to work flawlessly? The NAS can export iSCSI, NFS,
SMB, etc. I'm sure I could even use ATAOE if needed

Redundant shared mail store?
...are with a cluster of Dovecot servers. We
clearly need a shared mail store for these servers, but we are not happy
with simply using a server running NFS as this becomes a single point of
failure.
What have other people used? AFAICT our options are:
* A shared block device (Fibre Channel, iSCSI, ATAoE etc) running GFS
or similar to allow multiple servers to access it concurrently
* Two or more NFS units, either with built-in support for replication
of FS changes and failover, or with scripts for achieving this functionality
I prefer option 1, although it's expensive. What have other peop...

"pre-OS"
...could be written that would do all the USB discovery and
setup, and so on, and then install BIOS-like API support for them, so
that the system could end up successfully booting from those devices,
even when the real BIOS couldn't do it directly.
This would be useful for USB, FireWire, PXE, ATAoE, iSCSI, various other
exotic protocols, various older nonstandard devices, and pretty much
anything that can be discovered and booted from. It would be something
that could start from something as simple as a floppy, and then chain
from there to any other device.
Would such a thing be possib...

xen, iscsi and resilience to short network outages
Hi. Here is the short version:
If dom0 experiences a short (< 120 second) network outage the guests
whose disks are on iSCSI LUNs get (seemingly) unrecoverable IO errors.
Is it possible to make Xen more resiliant to such problems?
And now the full version:
We''re testing Xen on iSCSI LUNs. The hardware/software configuration is:
* Dom0 and guest OS: SLES10 x86_64
* iSCSI LUN on

Homegrown Hybrid Storage
Hi,
I''m looking to build a virtualized web hosting server environment accessing
files on a hybrid storage SAN. I was looking at using the Sun X-Fire x4540
with the following configuration:
- 6 RAID-Z vdevs with one hot spare each (all 500GB 7200RPM SATA drives)
- 2 Intel X-25 32GB SSD''s as a mirrored ZIL
- 4 Intel X-25 64GB SSD''s as the L2ARC.
