HP DL140G2 and SATA woes
...4 list...
I''m having trouble getting CentOS 4.2 installed on a DL140G2 with two SATA
drives. I am doing a PXE install, so I do not have a CD-ROM drive in the
system and this appears to have the side-effect that both SATA drives are
caught by the Uniform Multi-Platform E-IDE driver before ata_piix can catch
it.
As soon as I hook an IDE CD-ROM up to the system, the ata_piix driver
somehow can get access to the SATA drives first and they use the SCSI
subsystem and I get infinitely better performance.
However, I have to disconnect one of the SATA drives to attach a CD-ROM
drive (don''...

Module error in mkinitrd
We are happily running xen on a server which uses a SATA driver (thank
you all you xenists for producing such a great product). However, we
are creating a custom kernel for a domU. When we attempt to run
mkinitrd we get:
No module ata_piix found for kernel 2.6.11.12-xenUIPSec, aborting.
This is the SATA driver. In the past (xen 2.0.5), we simply ran make
ARCH=xen menuconfig and told it to build a module for the low level scsi
driver for ata_piix. That was simply to eliminate the error as I do not
think the domU actually needs the...

ata_piix
Hi all
I am using cents 5.3 on a gigabyte motherboard MA78GM-US2H.
When installing centos using kickstart I get prompted to load a driver.
I select the ata_piix driver
and everything continues as normal.
Is there a way in kickstart or the boot command prompt line to specify
loading the ata_piix module automatically?
Why isnt the kernel loading it automatically? I dont recall having to
ever do that before in 5.2
Thanks,
Jerry

hdX vs sdX on centos 5.x with ata_piix
hi,
on centos 5.x and fedora 6 there are hdX and sdX while from fedora 7
(and probably centos 6.x) there will be only sdX. is it possible with
the latest centos kernel to use the same ata_piix driver to handle all
disk (ie. both pata and sata) so we've only sdX disk devices like it's
the current setup on newer fedora release. we try to disable
ide0=noprobe etc. which really disable hdX but even if the kernel load
the ata_piix driver it's still not load these disks.
thanks in...

booting erro on FC3
I''m a newbie. :)
I followed the steps written by Jerone Young:
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=10562241
but i found an error at the 17th step:
17. mkinitrd /boot/initrd-2.6.10-xen0.img 2.6.10-xen0
it said:"No module ata_piix found for kernel 2.6.10-xen0, aborting."
so I commented the line of "module /boot/initrd-2.6.10-xen0.img" in the
grub.conf.
My grub.conf is like this:
-------------------------------------------------------------
title Xen 2.0.3

Quation about CentOS 4 xenU kernel
...ng programs to work. There are differences because of the xenU
kernel I didn't think about. I forgot to exclude rpm database and
/lib/modules.
Because the synced rpm database doesn't include the xenU kernel anymore I
installed the latest one again. I got this warning:
WARNING: No module ata_piix found for kernel 2.6.9-67.0.22.ELxenU,
continuing anyway
Looking around I don't have this module for the old kernel (2.6.9-67)
either. But it's referenced in modprobe.conf. Nevertheless, I could boot
the VM. A locate shows this module in all non-xenU kernels under
/lib/modules, sometim...

Controller detection order
...50.
My problem is the enclosure gets detected first, hijacking sda and
sdb from the internal SATA drive and causing kernel panic at boot
time. I've tried changing the order in modprobe to the following:
alias eth0 tg3
alias eth1 tg3
alias eth2 e1000
alias eth3 e1000
alias scsi_hostadapter ata_piix
alias scsi_hostadapter1 mptbase
alias scsi_hostadapter2 mptscsih
alias usb-controller ehci-hcd
alias usb-controller1 uhci-hcd
previously ata_piix was below the other two.
This hasn't made any difference though. Can anyone suggest any
solutions?
thanks

Redhat 7.3 as CentOS 5 domU
Hello,
What is the simpliest way to run Redhat 7.3 server as CentOS 5 domU?
I see that Xen emulates Intel PIIX ATA controller for HVM domUs but
latest kernel of Redhat 7.3 (2.4.20-20.7smp) has no ata_piix kernel
module yet. Is it possible to download it somewhere or there is
another way? :)
And I'd like to avoid reinstalling them with the new OS. Preferably
they'd just die their own death in their little domUs. :)
Regards,
Mindaugas
