Hang ZFS due to asyncronous delete?
As most others have - I''ve been having issues with dedup.
Here''s my situation, 4TB pool for daily backups of sql server - dedup enabled - so a typical directory has 100+ files that are mostly identical (some all are identical).
If I do rm * OpenSolaris is dead, zfs hung, etc. sometimes it comes back after hours, sometimes I reboot (only if a directory I don''t care if

Icecast Problems Get Worse
FYI, since turning off directory updates, the streams have been up 18 hours.
So, if that does turn out to be the issue, is there anything that can be
done to "fix" that? Is it a known bug?

wishlist for ogg123 += Non-blocking verbose messages
Hi,
I am using the ogg123 player through an emacs interface to mpg123 I
patched up to support ogg123 (shameless plug, see
http://asf.void.at/emacs.html). This has a problem (apart from it being
emacs, which might offend some of you (-:):
The verbose output from ogg123 is collected and inserted into a
temporary buffer. This works when emacs has nothing else to do, but
fails when it blocks. Then,

I'm trying to setup Asterisk on debian etch (with the debian packages)
with a "Fritz!Card PCI" ISDN card and chan_capi.
Everything seems to be configured the right way (excerpts below),
Asterisk seems to see the ISDN-card but if i try to place a test-call
from the outside i don't see anything on the asterisk-console (set debug

Creating another database connection for large mysql import?
I''m using backgroundrb to periodically download a large file via ftp from a
remote location and then import it into the database. To perform the
import, I was using the following:
ActiveRecord::Base.connection.execute(%{load data infile ...;})
although on a file with 2.5 million records, this can take 5 minutes, which
seems to tie up my rails application while this executes (even

Problems getting Asterisk to detect call in SUSE9.3, with FritzCard
I have installed an Asterisk 1.4 on Suse93 using a FritzCard.
Some calls are logged to the ISDN log, but Asterisk is not detecting
incoming calls.
I wonder whether some other device or process is preventing Asterisk
from gaining access to the isdn line?
Is there some way to ensure that only Asterisk can listening to the
line, or get it to share the line with some other device, such as the

Great information, thank you. Could you remark on GPFS services hosting mail storage over a WAN between two geographically separated data centers?

Shorewall and VLANs (802.1q)
My actual scenario is:
-Hundreds PCs in a internal network (fixed IP), divided in +- 6 different
subnets
-A +- 6 customers with leased lines
-A Cisco Catalyst 4006 connecting groups of PCs to corresponding customers
(imagine a Call Center company)
-Works fine.
The problem:
Frequently, it''s necessary to migrate dozens PCs from a customer to

Xiph.Org is pleased to announce a release cacndidate of libogg 1.1.4.
This release candidate will have a trial period of two weeks followed
by full release. The only changes between now and the full release

Icecast Problems Get Worse
Do you know if this problem exists in Icecast2? Is it even worth fixing in
the 1.x codebase?
Are we the first people to see the bug?

Testing problems in Rails
Hello, everyone.
I start using Rails to develop a little project and I have some concerns
while I''m practising TDD.
* In rails, it seems very common to functional testing contoller without
unit testing it, and the unit tests and DAO tests of models are mingled in
the "unit test" of model under test/model. I used to seperate the unit tests
and DAO tests because in unit tests we

like to make the log files non-interlacing. Are there any logging
modifications/other loggers out there that I could use to create
process safe logging?
Thank you,

Speeding up Transfers of 1000s of files
Hi all,
I have to transfer thousands of files across my network. We are looking at using rsync via a squid proxy to help improve the network tuning. What I am witnessing now is that with each successive file, the transfer speed resets to 0 and ramps up to 2.5MB/s.
Is there anyway that I can group these transfers together to take better advantage of our bandwidth? I should be able to peak at
