rsync without reverse dns lookup
...erver and Client have no DNS Name, and so rsync trys to lookup for a DNS Name for this IPs. This causes a long DNS Timeout! My question: is there a commandline option to disable this "feature"? Or can you give me quick "hack around"? Best regards -- Clemens Gesell <cgesell@astaro.de> | Product Development Astaro AG | www.astaro.com | Phone +49-721-490069-18 | Fax - 55

Firewall frustration
...be Shoreline with webmin.... Problem is I want a REAL router/firewall with little work. Both public and private nets have routable addresses. No NATing for me! I just help write the RFC ;) And all the templates for fwbuilder want you to be using NATing. Perhaps I should just set up another Astaro firewall. I have been using Astaro since v3, so I am comfortable with it....

Setting up a simple NAT on CentOS 3.5
Well I think this system is back on 3.5. How do I tell? Have not used it in a while... I need a NAT for some quick testing and this box was available. Only a 6gb drive, so I can't install Astaro (which I have licenses for). So is there a simple way to turn on NATing? Should I upgrade to 4.2? This box is behind a firewall, so security risks are not the issue. This time.

Ping dom0 <-> domU result in "Destination host unreachable"
...ethX? I saw also in some posts that xenbr0 was assigned an ip address. Tried that as well and also set a routing entry for it but my domU''s don''t wanna talk to the outsite. Has anyone an idea what could cause this problem? Firewall builder - which rpm?
I need a decent, easy, firewall on Centos. This is for test systems, so I do not need a lot. For 'a lot', I use and Astaro firewall. I had used Firestarter once, but found out that it cannot handle routing between a public and private network. Basically saying this is impossible. Of course, if your private network is addressed per RFC 1918 (that I co-authored), I can understand the difficulty, but otherwise.......

hardware isues
I have a broadcom bcm5722 and a dual intel pro/1000 pt nic in a dell t110. The setup sees the cards and i put them into automatic mode. After the install no cards are detected at all. Astaro 8.01 detects and utilizes all of these cards just fine. I have also tried ubuntu server 10.04 lts and they work fine. I'm curious if this is a bug with Centos 6?

OT: firewalls
What is everyone using for a firewall? I'm currently using www.astaro.com but their recent releases have soured me on ASL as a practical solution on my hardware (1.2MHz Athlon, 30G, and 256M). I only have 4 computers going through the firewall wall but it's consistently at 50% cpu load. There is very little network traffic (<10k bits per second on the wa...

Total inertia in package Vegan?
...In decorana one gets the 4 eigenvalues, but not the Total inertia. Is there a way for me to get the Total inertia without having to go over to Canoco? Best Firewall Suggestions?
Hi, My customer has a outdated firewall that is also presenting a NAT nightmare for getting the Asterisk server reachable from the internet. What firewalls work good with VOIP? I really want to steer away from any ALG supported firewall. I just want a good firewall that works well with Asterisk. Thanks, David Wathen -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...

Shorewall as a "commercial" firewall
I am considering replacing my old checkpoint and watchguard firewalls witha single Linux box using iptables and shorewall. I have two ISP''s (with separate routing tables), two DMZ''s, at least one VPN to a remote office, and a local trusted network. The configuration will look like: +----------------+ | | net0 ----------+ eth1

IP Cop as a firewall and QOS
We are looking for a good firewall replacement which will basically do pot blocking and QOS. Our current solution just plain stinks.. We basically need to handle the traffic of a few web servers, mail server and asterisk box. The most traffic this device will need to handle is what can be shoved through a T1. I don't mind buying an appliance to get something solid but IP Cop just looks

Firestarter on Centos 5
...into a NAT box, so that I can plug my corp notebook into its ethernet, and get access through my Centos notebook's wireless connection. (yes the corp notebook has wireless, but they frown on us using it!) I have started with Shorewall via webmin. I suspect that since my main firewall is Astaro, I will figure out Shorewall. But in an earlier post to this list, there was a reference to Firestarter (http://www.fs-security.com/). Thing is there is no Redhat/Centos 5.0 rpm, only 4.x. Anyone out there know if it will work?
