vfs_recycle missing deleted file?
Hi,
With smb.conf having full_audit and recycle, today I saw:
Sep 17 10:48:49 kantoor smbd_audit[2317861]:
hannah|192.168.1.26|ashare|unlinkat|ok|/home/ashare/Documents/20240917Workflow.ods
However, there's no /home/.recycle/hannah/Documents/ or any other hint
of 20240917Workflow.ods in her recycle directory. As there is a copy of
the last version of this file (in another users directory) which has a
file size of 42266 b...

Autoaccept all authentications to mitigate disabled guest logins in Windows 10 build 1709
Hello,
guest logins are not allowed anymore in Windows 10 build 1709 by default. Due to company restrictions I am not allowed to reenable that in windows group controls.
I now like to authorize all connections independent of the current user and password and just allow access so Windows thinks it has an authenticated connection and allows access. Is this somehow possible by using strange PAM

Bug#561995: mkdir: cannot create directory `/var/lock/logcheck': Permission denied
Package: logcheck
Version: 1.3.4
Severity: normal
I am running debian/testing and just upgraded to logcheck 1.3.4 and it
started reporting the error:
mkdir: cannot create directory `/var/lock/logcheck': Permission denied
I created the directory and chown'd it to logcheck and it seems fine now.
Looking at the changelog, I see something was purposefully changed, so I
imagine I

SYSLINUX stuck on boot about 0.1% of the time
Hi,
We recently switched from grub-legacy to EXTLINUX on our embedded
devices. While it works great usually, about one of every thousand
boots, it gets stuck. [1] A simple reboot fixes it straight away, but
that's not really acceptable for our customers, especially since there
is usually no monitor connected and they can't actually diagnose the
error, so they simply mark the device as

Revisiting slow explorer.exe connections
...It was not a DNS issue in this case.
The symptoms, and my fix is below, but I wanted to ask, is there a way
to deal with this from the server? (I dunno- like redirecting port 80 or
something).
>From the client, on a security=domain system, connecting to the share
via
net use N: \\smbserver\ashare
Worked snappy fast when I did a directory listing after "mount"ing the
drive letter. But explorer.exe took 30-40 seconds to yield the same
information. Obviously is was something on the client end if the
command line worked fine.
A Google on the topic yielded hints that it had someth...

What is happening here?
...ying happens...
- From SuSE10.0, there are problems with browsing LAN, due to
susefirewall, was said...and partialy this is true..
All kind of strange things, incompatibilities, or bugs, keep me from
just browsing shares in the network...
I filed a bug on this issue: Bug # 246770
Today, i removed ashare, that was created as test, and was not nessesary
anymore, result: network invisible!

Autoaccept all authentications to mitigate disabled guest logins in Windows 10 build 1709
Hai,
... man smb.conf ....
Have you tried that, that should work ;-) .
There you should see something like this.
[Global]
map to guest = Bad Password
[ashare]
path = /home/public/share
read only = yes
guest ok = yes
Look it up in the manual to see these settings explained, and dont forget to set the correct rights on the shared path.

bad VAD in preprocessor of version 1.2beta1
Hello, first of all, sorry for the joke in the subject ;-)
I have successfully update the speex library my software was using from
1.1.12 to 1.2beta1 (1.1.13).
It is a VoIP software, where i set preprocessor VAD on and use the
result of speex_preprocess() to determine if there is voice activity.
I must say that it works fine...since i have update to the new version.
Ive been testing, and

open_fake_file access_denied file[$Extend/$Quota:$Q:$INDEX_ALLOCATION]
By very few users the Samba log files get clogged with access_denied
messages at open_fake_file_shared every 15 minutes:
smbd/fake_file.c:open_fake_file(114)
open_fake_file_shared:
access_denied to service[<aShare>]
file[$Extend/$Quota:$Q:$INDEX_ALLOCATION]
user[<aUser>]
open_fake_file fails with this error if the "current_user.ut.uid" is not
root, so either the user is trying to fetch information he is not entiteld
to or smbd under some circumstances fails to...

The wisdom - or otherwise - of replacing outright rather than merely appending to the example smb.conf file shipped with SAMBA during new server commissioning?
I have a general question regarding smb.conf and I was hoping that some
of the rather more knowledgeable and experienced people here could
please comment please?
I am currently setting my various SAMBA systems up via some
shell-scripts. Within these scripts, I remove the stock smb.conf shipped
with Samba and replace this with an empty smb.conf file to which I add
my own configuration options
