Cisco Gear
Hi, I know it's not really the place, but if anybody in the UK (or US) is interested, I'm clearing out lots of new Cisco stock... 7970G's (colour LCD), 7960G's, 7940G's, 7920G's (wireless IP phone), 7935's (conference phone) and 3550-24-PWR switches. I also have boxes of 7914's, the single-7914 foot stand and double-7914 foot stand (these are required to

Replacing all NA values in a matrix
OK, dumb question, and it is probably in the docs somewhere, but after 12 months working with R and quite a while looking at the docs, I still don't know (or have forgotten) how to replace all NA values in a matrix at once with some other value. I can do it column by column using is.na(), but I can't figure out how to do it for the whole matrix. My apologies, I am ashamed ;-) Michael

R-help: beginner question
Hi, I am a beginner user of R. I have a trivial question ? I am almost ashamed I cannot figure it out does not matter how many times I am reading the help. I have a table in .txt format, tab delimited. I can read it with ?read.delim()? with no problems. Afterwards I would like to use boxplot function to see if there are any outliers in the column 5 of my data called TPAH16.ppm In the

How is R working in multicore and multiprocessor environment?
My Dear R buddies, I'm feeling ashamed that I've been running my R program on some servers for a while but do not know exactly how R is working. The servers are chained together using Sun Grid Engine. Each node has 8 quad-core CPUs. I wonder how many cores and CPUs are used by a simple single-thread R program. Thanks a lot. Best wishes, -- ??? Hesen Peng

Might seem drastic to some, but I don't feel much pain because I almost always edit my code in a file rather than on the fly at the console, and re-run it frequently from a fresh R process to check my progress.

Feature request: usernames and passwords
A relatively recent development that spammers got wind of is users that have username==password, with/without the domain. I am tracking numerous 1-off attempts from bots to gain access to mailboxes this way. Situation isn't made any better if you're also using dovecot as SMTP AUTH provider for I am ashamed to admit I've relayed some spam that way. Would it be possible to deny login

Cisco 7960s
Cisco should really be ashamed of this product... While it is physically well constructed, and has excellent sound quality along with a very pleasant user interface, the device has SERIOUS stability issues, unless you run your network with an iron fist... Quite by accident, while configuring my Asterisk system to connect to a Cisco 7960 via SIP in a standard office PBX type arrangement, I

what writes to /root/.cache/mesa ?
Dear All, I have several CentOS 7 machines (but not all of them) on which I have noticed that something gets written to /root/.cache/mesa every so often (once every several days). It is my understanding that mesa is related to GUI (X11), but on these machines (on neither of my machines, actually) root never logs in to GUI X11. I may have remote root logins with Xforwarding though. Hence my

FileCheck feature request- by default ignore IR-"headers"
Hi all- I hope this is the right place for this. Anyway, the primary usage for the utility "FileCheck" is to pattern match for specific values in a stream. This is perfectly consistent and deterministic for the most part! However, when validating clang's LLVM-IR generation, it is possible to make an invalid match against the top few generated lines (the LLVM-IR Headers), which are

displaying computation outputs inside "for" loops
Dear R-users, I am puzzled by for loops and am kind of ashamed to ask because it is so simple. There must be something I am missing in the way they are executed. Basically, I would like to iterate a given number of time and generate a bunch of stats (that's what loops are designed for, right?). Before doing this I simply want to test simple procedure and see if they work (ie got the syntax

unable to force the vector format

OggPCM proposal feedback
Dear Arc, I feel ashamed of the xiph community. I was always one standing up for the open audio-visual codecs and applications that were developed here and I felt part of that community by contributing. There have been an enormous number of people contributing to xiph specifications and software over the years. Your emails have been an insult to every contributor to xiph that is not in the

deferred call
I must admit I'm a little ashamed to have been using R for so long, and still lack a sound understanding of deferred calls, eval, deparse, substitute, and friends. I'm attempting to make a deferred call to a function which has default arguments in the following way: call.foo <- function(f) { x <- f() } x <- 1:10 f <- function(x=x) { x^2 } call.foo(f) However, I'm

composite primary keys
Hello, Is it true that Rails doesn''t support composite primary keys? I have a legacy system and was pondering adding a new interface to it. This whole Rails thing (and yes, Ruby too) seems pretty interesting but I''d feel ashamed of myself adding an additional column called ''id'' when there''s already a perfectly good composite key. Assuming the rumors
