Appears to be working so far. I'll have to continue testing to be sure,
but it's definitely logging out quickly. I made the changes and HUP'd
the daemon. Thanks!

Mac OS X winbind on Samba domain
Hi All,
Has anyone managed to get a Mac (OS X I'm using) to authenticate to
a Samba/NT domain? I've been playing with this all day, and am not
getting very far - smbd, nmbd and winbind (3.0.2) all run fine, I can
see the domain, can connect individually to windows shares, wbinfo shows
users (and groups, I assume), but there's no hints as far as what the

installing (PR#2025)
Am I being stupid? I have made several attempts to download R for
Macintosh and everything goes fine til I double-click. At this point the
message 'can't find CarbonLib' appears. My system is 8.6, running on a G4.
Cheers
Bill

Samba, OS X Tiger 10.4 plain text password, username null-padded?
...9;t a great
idea, but that's not the question)
With Panther, plaintext passwords worked fine. Snooping, I see the
plain text password and username go through.
With Tiger, we first had to apply this small fix to the client to
enable plain text passwords:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301580
Once this was done, snooping an smbclient connection, I see the plain
text password and the username but they are null-padded.
Authentication works. But when Tiger attempts to mount an smb share
via the GUI, I see the password NOT null-padded and the username
PADDED, and this fails.
Can an...

User Profiles issue
...Volumes/data/HomeFolders/
User Home Profiles live on a RAID 5 array within the server /Volumes/

Permission on the Profiles folder are: 770
Ownerships are: root:staff
These are as the per user instructions as listed on Apples site:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107700
This applies to 10.3 server but 10.4 seems to have the same identical
settings.
The users home folders are shared out and the profiles folder follow

ZFS vs. Apple XRaid
Hello all,
After setting up a Solaris 10 machine with ZFS as the new NFS server,
I''m stumped by some serious performance problems. Here are the
(admittedly long) details (also noted at
http://www.netmeister.org/blog/):
The machine in question is a dual-amd64 box with 2GB RAM and two
broadcom gigabit NICs. The OS is Solaris 10 6/06 and the filesystem
consists of a single zpool stripe
