Huge directory tree: Get files to sync via tools like sysdig
As Ben mentioned, ZFS snapshots is one possible approach. Another approach is to have a faster storage system. I have seen considerable speed improvements with rsync on similar data sets by say upgrading the storage sub system. -------------------------------------------------------------------- This email is protected by LBackup, an open source backup solution http://www.lbackup.org

Deletion of destination files
Hi to all rsync users. rsync's `--delete' option works fine in the following example: I'm sending all the content of /home/rodolfo from machine1 to /home/rodolfo in machine2: $ rsync --dry-run -vrtul --delete --exclude='/.*' . 192.168.0.2:/home/rodolfo , and --delete works perfectly. Instead, in this other example: $ rsync --dry-run -vrt --delete --modify-window=1 file1

Delete remote folder
Hi I'm trying to build a backup system based on rsync. It should work with different destinations (local, share, remote etc) that's why I'm looking for ways how every operation can be controlled from the client side. I want to create full backups and incremental backups. For the incremental backups I use --compare-dest lastfullbackup. This works nicely except that the whole directory

rsync with overlay tree
I maintain a directory structure containing dirs and files that I regularly push to ~50 hosts, which are divided into 3 groups that have slightly different needs (minor mods in a couple of files). So ideally I would have 4 directories: /path/to/sync/common/ <- common files /path/to/sync/group1/ <- group1 specific only /path/to/sync/group2/ <- group2 specific only

rsync keeps writing files over
Cool Thanks! Specifically, the timestamps on both <src> and <dest> match for "ls -l" but do not match for "ls -lu" or "ls -lc” The storage is just an regular HDD in a mac pro tower. I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t handle timestamps. Also of note - this problem doesn’t exist for every file, just the vast majority. So, that just makes it more confusing. Yes,

os/2 support using Watcom
The attached set of patches adds support for OS/2 using Watcom compiler (tested with Open Watcom 1.9). My only interest was building a working dll (the last patch in the set adds a makefile for it), therefore I did not touch other places: If there is interest, I can do so.
