Centos Guys: Any estimate of recent torrent savings?
...er syncing of mirrors, faster initial release downloads, reduced costs to the project, etc. I recently increased my cable modem speeds (U.S. $10/mo seemed worth it to me even though I don't get the benefits of the added download speed often - nature of what I do and all that) so I could upload appx. 60KB/s instead of the previous appx. 45KB/s. And the new {lib, r}torrent from rpmforge has DHT capability included, which I activated, and I think is increasing the number of peers/clients with which I see exchanges. I don't know how badly this might cause under-reporting of your stats. Just...

logistic regression
Hello 1* I need to use logistic regression. But my data file is very huge( appx. 4 million line). R doesn't handle such a file. What can I do ? ------------------------ 2* So, I thought whether I could perform sta. analyses on summarised data (count of yes/no values) of the huge file. Normally, summarised data file short and R could handle it. Then I used this command. &g...

CentOS-4.4 update: don't forget those rpmsave and rpmnew files folks!
After you do your update, done forget to do updatedb, makewhatis, ... The locate for rpmnew has a couple items of interest and the locate for rpmsave returns one that occupies 24MB of your precious disks - /var/lib/Pegasus/prev-repository*. It compresses nicely to appx. 1MB, cpio bzipped --best. Change in your rndc key too, for DNS.

G4-400mhz enough for CentOS 4.3?
It's that time again. I'm stuck with a bunch of older Powermac G4's that I either need to repurpose or give the heave ho. I've not tried CentOS on Mac hardware before. Would the following config be suitable for a (somewhat slow) workstation? PowerMac G4 400mhz 256mb RAM 40gig ATA disk Some sort of dual-head ATI video setup with 64mb VRAM (I've forgotten which cards they

graphic glitch around menu/toolbars
...run into that I believe is caused by either my configuration or my window manager. I'm using a stock Fedora Core 3 (fc3) system and currently wine-20041201-1fc3winehq with a default config file. When I run windows applications there is a transparent border around the menubar and all toolbars appx 5 pixels thick. This transparent border will not draw, therefore if you do something like move the window offscreen then back again, it will be filled with bad pixels from the background. This makes windows apps appear very ugly. I've tried wine under gnome and kde and still have this proble...

Torrent: reminder to use it folks!
Well, there's so few going right now that I'm showing 38 days to get the DVD. My normal dnld from a mirror travels appx. 600Mb/sec. I'll wait until most of the U.S. goes home before I give up and use the normal download though. Here's hoping... -- Bill

Hi. I'm trying to make a windows environment to ensure most programs work. Apache/2.0.52 (CentOS) Server at www.mydomain.com Port 80 I know that I am missing something REALLY simple here! Somehow I need to have "appX" prepended in this scenario? If so, how do I do that? If not, do you have any idea what I am doing wrong? Thanks SO much for taking the time to help someone new to Rails with a question! Thanks!, Martin

algorithmic rid base problem after upgrade to 3.0.9
...from any documentation that it should be greater than 1000 (it only states "is normally 1000 or greater" in the docs), I choose 400. Where in the source can I change this hard check of the algorithmic rid base to also get it working with my rid base , because I am stuck to 3.0.7 now for appx. 30 samba servers , which I would like to upgrade. New User: Kudos, small/old platform, RPM Illegal Instruction
...old stuff, still good but obsolete. Picked an AMD 5x86 (equivalent to a Pentium 75 MHz) and decided to see if I could make it my gateway/router. Had some difficulties, not unexpected. Old CD drive couldn't read the CDs. No boot from CD in BIOS. Floppy was broken. Memory is 36 MB. VLB MB, appx. 1 GB old slow drives, etc. Decided to plug HD into another unit and do install there. Went OK, but for some reason, all the junk I tried to turn off still appears to get started. Anyway, my problem is that RPM traps with illegal instruction when a query all, among other combinations, is attem...

CentOS 4.5 and CentOS 5.0 News
Hi, I use CentOS as a firewall/proxy/webserver/fileserver in my small network. As the small-spec machine with CentOS is heavily loaded/used I can't afford downtime. 20 GB, pentium II with only 128 MB RAM. However I want to know the news on 4.5 is it due soon? Can I gain more by running CentOS 3.x range on such an old machine like mine? Will CentOS 5.0 mean you need a minimum of 512 RAM?

offset in gam and spatial scale of variables
Hi, We are analizing the relationship between the abundance of groupers in line transects and some variables. We are using the quasipoisson distribution. Do we need to include the length of the transects as an offset if they all have the same length?? Also, can we include in the gam models variables that are measured at different spatial scales? We have done an analysis to see what variables

..., 128MB?). Also on an AMD 486 clone (x586?) 100MHz with 36MB of memory. Only differences observed seem related to half/full duplex nature of the NICs and raw speed. With my cable being in the "boonies" and a stock Toshiba cable model, good sites get me 600-700 kChars/sec on the Pentium, appx. 530K/sec on the AMD and 460K/sec on the Aptiva. With that in hand, Aleksandr's staple, $20 machinces, should fit in your scenario very nicely. Like him, I have a bunch of those (even some $10 ones - 386SX comes to mind). Find justification for their continued existence seems to be my biggest...
